Up-pipe clamp leak

Well I thought I was leak free, but while I was checking the oil this evening, I decided to check all the clamps on the CAC boots. Then once I did that I said "Might as well check the up-pipe clamp". Low and behold, I saw some soot on the clamp. But I only saw it on a small portion of the clamp. I felt around as much of the clamp as I could, and didn't come back with any more soot on my finger, so it looks like the only leak I have is at the top of the clamp.

The only place I saw soot was just past the threads (looking at the clamp in the pic above, the soot was to the right on the non-threaded portion of the t-bolt. I did tighten the clamp up some and got quite a few turns on the nut, so fingers crossed that fixed my issue. If it doesn't fix the leak, am I gonna have to loosen the turbo to get it lined up again? Or just take the clamp off and get it right? Thanks guys.

The up pipes leave the manifolds and come up to the back side of the turbo. The exhaust clamp your showing here is for the down pipe that leaves the exhaust-exit side of the turbo and travels down to exit the rear of the vehicle via the exhaust piping system. Do you have an aftermarket exhaust of the vehicle. Once the down-pipe is tightened with this type of clamp and all is fitting snuggly, nothing really moves much. You should be good to go.

Jo7.3 the connection at the baby's butt is a machined fit. See picture. Tightening the clamp should be good. With a flashlight and mirror. you may be able to look between the V clamp opening at the mating surfaces to see if it is a tight fit.

the turbine side fits snuggle into the recess

Yeah I’m thinking tightening the clamp should get it. I know for a fact that the little dimple is fully seated into the back of the turbo where it’s supposed to be. Nearly smashed the end of my finger getting it lined up lol. I’ve only had the clamp off once since I’ve had the truck, and that was a couple of months ago when I added a billet wheel and did an EBPV delete. Appreciate the help guys.

Im pretty sure this is an up-pipe clamp in the picture. I just googled “up pipe clamp” and this came up. Easier to do this instead of sticking my phone all in the engine bay to try and get a pic of my clamp. That being said, I do have an aftermarket exhaust, but I know that it isn’t leaking. The down-pipe is tight and no spot around it at all. Just a little bit of soot on the up-pipe clamp.

Jo7.3 is correct. The uppipe collector to turbo connection uses a v-band clamp.

Lol I know what you mean. I had to pound on mine six ways to Sunday to get it to pop loose. Yes, I have bellowed uppipes. The T4/SXE setup is calling to me though.

I don't know what that is. Interesting. I sure got lucky when I bought this truck years ago. I wouldn't mind a new one, but this will not quit.

Somehow my up-pipes aren’t leaking...yet. As far as I know they are original (217k miles). However, I don’t plan on putting anymore money into the stock turbo, as I have begun the process of saving up for a t4 setup.
