Fuel Rail Crossover

Has anyone done the fuel rail crossover? If so what exactly are some benefits to it?

I installed the Riffraff FRx [LINK] to reduce injector noise by reducing air in the fuel rails, sending it back to the tank. That and the Hutch mod did the most for eliminating air in the fuel for me.

I heard that it's supposed to help a lot with fuel mileage myth or fact?

A regulated return like the FRx isn't really going to be able to give you a noticeable difference in fuel mileage. The only way you would see much is if you had considerable air in your fuel and it was effecting your spray pattern at the nozzle. While all stock systems suffer from this issue, it isn't normally enough that when corrected by the FRx that you would see a mileage gain.

On a trip traveling on highways at speeds around 75-80 I'm getting roughly 10.5 with my super chip on the fuel econ tune it's a cab and chassis with a aftermarket bd transmission and custom built flatbed with a welding machine. I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure I should be getting better than 10.5

@Pieliner984 These trucks can get anywhere from 7 MPG to 20 MPG due to a lot of factors. To include tires, MPH, RPM, modifications, engine condition, parts condition, accessories, etc... Personally, I get 18.5 MPG unloaded in mixed city/highway driving and I get 13.5 MPG towing a 12,000 lbs 5th wheel in mostly highway driving with some city sprinkled in there. I drive 65 MPH on the interstate and have a ZF6 manual transmission with 265/75R16 tires on the truck.

Welcome to the FTE!

I believe the 7.3 is most efficient under 2000 rpm. What rpm are you at with your rig at 75-80?

How's the air filter? Some improvements to MPG can be had with air and exhaust upgrades.

Boost leaks would be another thing to check and eliminate. A boost leak detector how-to video I followed is below:

This is a friendly community and BWST was merely participating in the conversation at hand which is seemingly evolving from a FRx topic to a MPG topic.

Have a nice holiday weekend!

all fine and well, just trying to understand what or how it tied into a fuel crossover setup.

I’d suggest checking your fuel pressure and rebuild the regulator if the psi isnt in spec would be more beneficial to keeping air out of the fuel, as well as checking for any leaks in the fuel lines all the way to the tank pickup. the quick disconnects are know to leak and allow air in.

I have the Rifraff Frx and have been happy with it. The biggest reason to install it (IMHO) is to fix the dead head fuel rail which causes #8 to starve for fuel because #6 fires right before it and depletes the fuel supply to #8. The manufacturer tried to compensate by putting a long lead injector in #8. The Frx helps to keep #8 from starving and cackling. I can attest to the fact that there is absolutely no cackle on mine other than the split second when she first fires off cold. As far as MPG I don't think it helped, the thing that helped that the most is a topper and driving slower.
PS is your welding machine Blue or Red?

I installed the Frx crossover on mine a few year back along with the larger fuel banjo bolts. I noticed the 7tree being more quite, and a lot easier to start after fuel filter changes. I was told that good oil, good coolant, and keeping good fuel pressure available to the injectors, will improve the life of the injectors. I've had mine since June of 2000. I bought it in Manchester, MI. It will roll 335,000 miles this week, Lord willing. Piece of Junk.
