Hey all! Got a 1980 f-150, 4x4 flairside, Correct me if I’m wrong but I think it has a 16 gallon side mounted fuel tank and I live in the mountains very far from the gas station, drives me crazy, I also “think” that some models have a 19/20 gallon side mounted tank? Will they just swap in? Or no because the flairside bed? Let me know, I’m hating the tiny tank that’s in it
I don't think they will fit. At least without a modification.
From what I have read on here at least.
I could be wrong as I don't have a short bed.
Someone else can fill in the details on why and what might be able to be done.
The 19 gal tank will not fit because of the short bed only the 16 will fit.
Now you can install the rear 19 gal tank from a style side truck along with the cross member as the straps fit into it but ...
You would need to work out the filler hose part and also note the fule doors are different between flare side & style side.
Then you have to deal with the fuel switch valve and gauge.
The wiring for this is part of the main harness on a duel tank truck but I am sure something can be done to work this out a different way.
Do a search for duel tank flare side trucks as a few of us have done it.

Back to the wiring part of the duel tanks.
When I said "main harness" it is the part across the dash that also plugs into the fuel tank switch.
Then you have the harness that runs down the frame rail that plugs into the tanks switch valve & the 2 tanks and goes back and plugs into the tail light harness.
As for the factory switch it is to the right of the HVAC controls. If you look at the back side you will see the slot the switch handle goes thru if you open it up.
I think you can get the switch and maybe even the pig tail.
Duel fuel doors on a flare side.

All the duel tank parts came from my 81 style side parts truck other than the fuel door as it had to be from a flare side.
I added duel tanks to a 76 Ford E350 van and was not that hard just wish I could remember how I wired it up?
