The 56 that I've owned for 33 years was originally light blue. I painted the truck in 78 with the closest blue I could find. I want to do a complete restoration of the truck so I bought an original 1956 FORD TRUCK Chassis Parts and Accessories Catalog (printed in Sept. 1955). The color code on my truck is 'F' on the original truck rating plate. The book lists no 'F' code!! I also have a 56 F350 that has the original paint and original rating plate. The truck is light blue and the code is 'F'. What's up? I also have the 1948-56 Ford Truck parts and accessories (Illustrations Catalog) copyright 1964. It doesn't list an 'F' paint code.
F - must mean 'figure it out'
Tried to upload a pic. of the tag, but no luck. So I created a website this evening. If you go there, look under documents. I have a excel spread sheet with full info. on 4 of my trucks. I took a pic of the Truck Rating Plate on the F350. It was dark and the pic is blurred, but you can make out the 'F'.
Randy,
I couldn't find it anywhere for '56 either. I don't know if this really helps you but for 1957, Color "F" = "Starmist Blue". It is a light blue color.
I was wondering if these trucks were run late enough in 56 that Ford was changing colors to the 57 shades. Maybe the tail end of the 56s' got the 57 Starmist Blue? The F350 was built in San Jose, and the F100 in Louisville KY.
My website link is on my last post. It contains (in documents) vins' for both blue trucks. There are also pics of the F350 at the site. The truck is faded, but obviously Light Blue.
Go to AutoColorLibrary, select Ford (NOT Ford truck), select 1957, then click on the paint chip chart to enlarge it. Starmist Blue is listed as DQE-11547-DAL DITZ-LAC Ditzler Automotive Lacquer. Ditzler was (and is?) a brand name of PPG. You should be able to get a match using the above number.
