I have a "The Chief" single horn that I'm working on installing (the horns used on fire engines - single note "gravel-ley" sound). Obviously no room to make it Title 19 compliant (in front of the radiator), so my horn with compressor/tank will go on two sections of diamond plate, mounted between the frame and the driver side "body pinch" (where the running boards are mounted - somebody know the "official" name of that?). I'm using angle brackets so any flex between frame and body will have somewhere to go. The horn will be basically under my feet (angled down to let water out and probably covered with some thin fabric to help keep water and dust out), and the compressor/tank will be at the b pillar area.
Mods Edit: Cut this post and all subsequent posts from the old resurrected thread so we can just discuss all things horn related, in its own dedicated thread.

one of my air horns is mounted sideways behined the grill and the other behind the bumper...... chooo coooo. and yes they scare the crap outta unsuspecting drivers.
yes, also check the Hella website for some crazy german overkill.. lol. and they have an App if you want to hear all the horns they offer
the reds are what is popular in desert racing for 2 reasons, sheer volume but the tone is piercing and gets your attention, most peoples comment about them is they sound like what you would hear on a Euro sports car. ( no duh...they are german).
I've threatened to do this so many times. I drive fairly conservatively, leaving space in front of me, especially while in traffic. This is obviously so that everyone and their brother can cut me off and slam their brakes right in front of me. An air horn would be perfect to let them know how I feel (and I'm also not a horn user in general). I'd hate to have someone freak out and wreck because I scare the crap out of them. So, I haven't gone this route....yet...
Would also be advantageous when pulling a hill on the interstate with the camper in the right lane. Folks don't seem to notice the ~55' long mass traveling next to the until it's too late trying to merge. Maybe I should let them know I'm there?? Jerks.

Robert, who makes this "Chief" air horn? Here on the East coast the most common fire apparatus air horns are the Grover stutter tone horns (I foreget the exact part number) but they have a much different tone than the common commercial truck air horns. As an old Fireman when I hear just that horn I know it's either a Truck or Engine in the area. And I really hate these new electronic fake Federal Q sirens, they sound exactly like what they are.......Nothing demands attentention like a real Q cycling.
Minor hijack here, but...are these Hella's plug and play with the existing wiring? I'm not much of a mechanic, and usually manage to shock myself when working with electricity. Thanks in advance for the help.

well its only 12 volts so unless you are sucking on the starter cable you should be fine
I wired mine into the stock wiring harness so the horns work with the stock horn button on the steering wheel.
the stock horns are located under the passanger front fender and requires the removal of the fender or fender liner to acess.
you can get to the harness wires by removing the fasteners to the front portion of the fender liner and pulling the corner down and pulling the harness out to where you can cut the 2 wires and using butt connectors add additional lengths of wire to reach your new horn mounting location.
