1975 gas tank swap not going well
the front also had leaks but was in use, since the leaks were on top, the rear had the leaks on the bottom
I got the rear tank installed and it appears to be 1" greater in height. I bought a 2 inch tow strap to use in place of the original factory felt and it definitely did not add that much height.
On the rear, is it an acceptable practice to get a longer bolt and shim with washers between the strap and frame?
and on the side tank I will have a different issue for the 4" greater height of tank. does anyone know of a alternate strap available or is that typically fabricated with some new metal and welding?

Original mid-ship tank contained 20.2 gallons with Evaporative Emission (unleaded fuel-non vented fuel cap), or 22.5 gallons without it.
Since there's no such thing as an original 14 gallon mid-ship tank, the tank is aftermarket, the fuel cap would be behind a door riveted to the bedside.
Without Evaporative Emission, the vent hose collapses or gets pinched over time, causing these notoriously slow fill fuel tanks to become even slower fill.
The vent hose was originally taped to the filler hose to prevent these maladies, but if replaced at some point, may not have been.
And, factory installed mid-ship & aft axle fuel tanks are located on the inside of the left frame rail.
Aftermarket tanks may be located on the outside of the frame rail between the bedside and frame. If T-boned in this location, the tanks split open, gas poured out, some exploded!
Looking to see if its a two wire connection that ultimately turns into one green wire.
Thanks

that makes sense with what I’m seeing on my truck i.e. the one green/red wire in the approximate area of the rear/midship tank and with the replacement pigtail for the rear and midship tank.
Thanks

while the tank appears to be an aftermarket, it was professionally done and sits where the factory tank would and has the same look and style, just a 14 gal capacity - and it did have the fuel tank switch in the cab on the AC/Heater panel
This would imply that the straps holding it will have to be modified for the 4" larger tank.
one more question on the rear tank, I need the sending unit sending cable that went between the sending unit and the quick disconnect at the frame, where is a good place to look for those?

No kidding!
EEC = Electronic Engine Control system - On board computer. No truck had a computer until the 1980's. Some people call it ECC, but it's the Evaporative Emission system, abbreviated Evap/Em

You could use any 1973/79 Regular/Crew/Super Cab mid-ship harness as long as it is long enough.

since I am not looking for period correct parts, the aftermarket will do; (I was lost my rear cable during the removal of the tank)

I will be diving under tomorrow if the weather allows,
for the side tank, i have the two retaining straps and they both appear to have ford part numbers;
d4ta 9054 oa and d4ta 9054 db
I will see how they do with the gas tank and actually fitting or not
the rear tank is installed with the filler and vent hose. I just need to shim and install the straps and then connect the sending unit and fuel line, if the front tank sending unit cable/harness/pigtail will transfer to the back tank, while the other is on order

This is a Bronco example of a sending unit wiring harness to the tail lamp harness, what I referred to in post #8.
