I want my trailer wheels to be a close match to my trucks wheels. Considering drilling lug holes in a 6.5 pattern between the OEM holes of F250/excursion wheels to fit Dexter hubs.
Sounds pretty ghetto, but if you are hell bent on trying it, you will need a good machine shop to line it up right, assuming you can find one that will even do it for you (huge liability in that, it seems).
What you are wanting to do can't be done safely. I did a set of Alcoa wheels that were 8x6.5 and redrilled them for 8x170. I painstakingly tig welded and filled every hole and then cut the front and back wheel face on a 3 axis mill. I then drilled out the 8x170. I had so many hours invested I would never do it ever again.
Aren't the Dexter axle hubs lug centric? If true, then isn't the trailer wheel centered via the lugs? Are not the wheel nuts conical for said centering?
We already know that the Ford dually wheels (referencing OP's signature rig) are hub centric, with flat swiveling compression wheel nuts.
There seems to be more incompatibility here than just the bolt circle diameter.
Guys, I want to emphasize, this is for my trailer.
I question where the trade off is at with strength, between a wheel with 16 lug holes vs adding adaptors.
I also acknowledge that srw excursion/F250/F350 wheel slots are not a perfect match.
Another curiosity, would the wheels be hub centric or lug?
Wheels made in China are not an option for me. That is half of my issue.
China made wheels are on my 2018 trailer now. I want them off.
I check CL daily.

I raised this question upthread.
All the Dexter axles I have are lug centric. The holes in the wheels have a tapered seat, and the lug nuts have a conical mating surface that nests into the tapered seat of the wheel lug holes to accomplish the concentric location of the wheel about the rotating axis of the hub. I have three large cargo trailers currently, each with two (tandem) axles. In every case for all the trailers I've owned, the wheels are lug centric, with tapered seats at the wheel holes.
A better option might be to have the hubs drilled to match the wheels. As a bonus you can then share a spare. Check for backspacing before you embark on drilling vs. adapters.
