1987 F-250 5.8L Serp belt
I had the smog pump seize up on me yesterday and have read tons of threads on using an eliminator or smaller belts etc... But on my truck the Serp belt run the smog equipment off the water pump. The water pump , P/s and alternator are on different belts. Can I just leave off the Serp belt? Will it effect the engine and performance negatively. I plan on replacing the smog pump eventually but need to know if I can run it without the Serp belt.

So the smog pump belt just goes around Crank, Water Pump, and Smog pump? If so, my only concern would be to make sure there is still a belt driving the water pump, but you said that there is (if I understood you correctly). If so, then I think you could just leave the Smog pump belt off.
