I started on a lift a few months ago and have still not finalized my steering. I have a 74 f250 with a kingpin dana 60 up front. been swamped with work so this truck has been sitting un finished and I am ready to start driving it again
I did a SD spring swap up front and swapped out to a skyjacker drop pitman arm.
Now the drag link has a weird angle to it. (plus the drag link end was too big to fit inside the pitman arm hole, so i started to ream out the hole)
I attached a couple pics of the current drag link and the angle of the tie rod end. . this is my original drag link which looks to have been custom made;
What are my options? Will the skyjacker adjustable one solve my issues or do I look at getting one made? or do I use my current drag link but flip the link end where it connects at the wheels, so it is on top of the arm instead of below? Looks like that would correct the awkward angle?
I have crossover steering on my 74 and Sky Jacker drop drag link on my 78 and 79. The crossover is definitely a better setup however I can't complain about the way the other 2 drive.
little unsure what is the best way to go. JC whitney has a coupon fir $40 of today, so I can get the skyjacker adjustable drag link for around $160 shipped and hopefully get the truck back on the road, I already spent the money on the skyjacker drop pitman arm
if I do the crossover is it a simple installation? how long does it take and are there any problems or other modifications would I run into?
It appears if i do the crossover have to swap the pitman arm again as I have the drop pitman installed now.
i ddi see this kit here which looks like it is $419- https://www.skysoffroaddesign.com/pr...=5560245583903
Crossover is easy it's just a matter of taking the cap off the passenger side and replacing it with a arm. You would also have to pull your pitman arm off and reclock it. I have the Sky mfg kit on my 74 for a few years now with no issues other than a bad tie rod end like as soon as I put it on. He ended up sending me a couple extras.
Looks like you could get away with the drop drag link since your pitman arm already has drop to it. As long as the drag link ends up fairly straight it'll drive ok. I'd probably just buy the draglink rather than spend the extra.

which way should I go??
Personally id go crossover. But theirs more time and money involved. You’ll either need to have your passenger side steering knuckle machined to fit the steering arm listed in the sky off road link. Or you may purchase a Ford Dana 60 steering knuckle from Reid Racing, which run about 300 bucks.. not sure why your drag link end doesnt mate to the drop pitman arm correctly. Hope you dont buy another drag link just to find out the drag link wasnt the problem.
He already has a Hp D60 front he doesn't need any machining. Homemade drag link his truck came with had Chevy tre on it already which is why he had to ream.

That sounds correct based on what I know. the drag link was definitely home made. it didn't fit the new drop pitman arm. Hope I haven't ruined my pitman arm now my trying to ream it out. Wish I would have bought the drop drag link first
thanks for all the help though I really do appreciate it.
i was wondering if I did do the crossover steering if it would interfere with the crossmember - Look like it was modified when the cummins was dropped in. Here is a pic but it appears to sit lower. I don't mind spending extra money at this point to make it right, Just want to be able to drive it again
i don't know. I cant really drive it like it is. It looks close though. with the current set up I have only moved it out of the driveway. the current drag link is not even fully seated in the pitman arm
is that a common problem that the crossover will solve?
I made a “custom” drag link from Moog parts I found on their website when I did my power steering swap. I have a similar steering set up to you but not as much lift. My setup works great btw, and it is a lot simpler than crossover steering...ill see if I can snap a quick picture for you.
