I'm at 58k miles on my ‘16 now and still running the OEM “Ranchos”. The only thing that is t stock on my truck is the airbag setup on the rear. I'm sure I need new shocks. What’s the general consensus on shocks here these days? Blistein HD yellows still?
I replaced my oem steering stabilizer with a billstein.
I like the adjustment on the ranchos depending on load. I did pack underneath the adjustment **** with marine grade grease.
I have them set on 1 for the kids and wife when they ride with me.
I found it, just had to scoot under there a bit more. I've got the Bilstein 5100s + Bilstein 5100 damper in a cart at Suspension Connection. 10% off on Father's Day w/ DAD10 code.
I had bad luck with Ranchos in the past, specifically on my '89 Wrangler. I think they puked in a month and I put Pro-Crap on there after and they held up for years. I've disliked Ranchos since, but understand there are different applications and corresponding models.
I chose them due to the reviews. The Bilstein I was going to buy were still too stiff . 2 guys at work have them and I took their trucks for a spin and wanted more cushion for the wife and kids.
Rolled the dice on the adjustables and have been pleased. Had a $50 rebate when I bought them.
it it wasn’t a last thing...they where just not cut out for the job.
my personal opinion is the 9000’s and blistiens are probally ok for 250/350 srw’s, but not up to the task on higher weight class DRW’s.
my truck empty weights 9800 lbs.
so depending on your operating weight, upscale shocks might be needed.
Everything above your axle weighs the exact same as a SRW. Springs and airbags help with towing. Are you relying on your shocks to haul heavier loads? I’d much rather fill up airbags and save the shocks. IDK.

Like I said. My empty weight is 9800lbs
shocks provide axle control more so than just float your cab.
on my empty truck, 9000’s and blistiens were not enough .
Just got back from a test drive after finishing the install on the new shocks and damper. Definitely a massive improvement over the OEM "Ranchos." Not sure why I didn't do this well over a year ago.
