Hi All, finally back to working on my truck after a pretty long absence from the site.
I bought replacement door and window shafts as the previous owner of my truck cut off the ends and welded on different ones. The window ones were a pain but got them done.
I am not sure they gave me the correct door handle shafts. See picture below but the hole for my shaft is four sided with the corners angled off but the replacement shafts I got are 6 sided. Can anyone confirm if I was given the wrong ones or are the ones I took out incorrect? You can see in the pic the hole is square with the corners angled but the replacement shaft is 6 sided. I searched a couple of threads but didn't see any pics of the replacement shafts. The one explanation (cutting the corners of the plate with teeth in it) for the window regulator shafts was very helpful. That made the window shaft job a lot easier.
Hi Charlie, thanks for the pic. I did get the shaft but as per your picture there are six sides to it but my shaft I took out is four sided with the corners angled off. It looks like I will have to modify the hole the shaft goes into for it to fit and then tack weld the shaft into the part. I am now starting to see why guys just buy the whole thing new instead of trying to replace the worn out shaft. I was just trying to see if anyone knew if there was a different shaft for the 56 as the one I got and the one you show do not slide right into the opening.
