hey guys,
my Dad has the truck in the title, it is new to him. The guy he bought it from said it has a 5.0 out of a 94 f250. Anyway the truck has been running fine until today. Today has been the warmest day of the year, the truck ran fine for about 20 minutes then started to buck, the rpms dropped my dad gassed it and it cut off. He was able to restart it right away but it was Dieseling and then cut off again. He let the truck cool off for about half an hour, started again and ran fine for about 5 minutes then started the same thing again. Let it cool off for a little while longer and we were able to make it home. Is this a common problem? I did a short search and it seems that it could be a tif module, distributor or a few other things. Any advice?
Check the codes stored in the computer. More than likely you're looking at the ignition module mounted on the distributor, coil, wiring, maybe the computer itself given the age of the truck. Good luck let is know what you find.
define "dieseling" ... to me it means a diesel-like clatter that usually happens AFTER the engine is shut off; or are you talking about "pinging" while the engine is running.
as said, definitely pull codes, it's free and easy. also a good idea to test fuel pressure with a gauge.
I got my dad to test fuel pressure today. When the truck is running fuel pressure is around 30 psi. When it messes up fuel pressure drops to around 10 psi so it seems like a fuel problem. From what I have read there is a high pressure pump on the frame rail. Would this be the culprit or could it be something else?
