Looking to add power mirrors and windows to my '96 XL F250 and found some doors from a '95 XLT F150. I bought them cheap and pulled them getting as much of the wiring harness as possible. I have asked around and was told that (1.) don't even try it!!, or (2.) I needed the computer off the '95 to run the doors?? If anyone can provide some direction on this project ( even to STOP) I would appreciate it.
Thks
Physically they are a direct bolt-on, electrically you will need the controls and wiring obviously. The uncertainty comes with how much of the correct chassis wiring is present in your truck for these, and that I don't know the answer to but worst case is you have to run power to both doors from another source. The computer in this vintage truck is for the powertrain only and has nothing to do at all with electrical accessories.
As far as I know there is not a module involved with the mirrors or windows. Trucks with factory power door locks have a module that controls the door locks, and trucks with Ford security systems have a security module. If there is a module (and Ford was and is a fan of modules) I would think you could make this work without it.
You will need the whole wire harness or need to make your own/ splice into what you have and run it. It shouldn't be too complicated, but a wiring diagram (which I do not have) would help you.
Folks on here may be able to provide a wiring diagram, and you may find some if you poke around the forum with the search function.
You can buy access to the workshop manual and electrical vacuum troubleshooting manual which includes the appropriate diagrams here. In the past I have had luck getting a wiring diagram from a service tech.
There is no module ( unless you want the security module but lets not go there), there is a separate harness that runs from door to door on the firewall that you need and that will plug into the dash harness, you will also need the 2 circuit breaker ( square metal cans) to fill the missing spots in your fuse box, this is a very easy swap to do.
Now, the doors will fit, but you already have a big problem in that you did not get the complete wiring harness for the doors. You probably found the disconnect for the passenger side door in the kick panel, but the harness out the driver's side door has no disconnect, save for the one in the passenger side kick panel. The harness runs behind the dash along the cowl. It is a separate harness, but you must remove, or loosen the entire dash to get to it.
You probably could fabricate something of a harness by matching colors and extending wires and you likely could find a more accessible run, but this will take some research and effort.
