I have a 06 F350 I tow a 13k-14k lb 5th wheel with here in Texas. I have recently put a powermax turbo on it with 4" MBRP straight exhaust. I tuned it with Gearhead 8k tow tune (13k with studs). I am studded. I'm debating on the atlas 40 or Eco tune from PHP for the FICM tune. I rented the tuner so I'm returning it next week. Any thoughts? Truck pulls hard just trying to keep it reliable.
You should actually call the tune writer you are going to use and ask them. I know Matt@Gearhead used to prefer writing on the ECO FICM tune rather than the Atlas or higher, but it might be different now.
I emailed Matt and he said the Atlas 40 would work well with his tune. So i am going to give it a try and see. I can monitor the EGT if i need to change something.

The reason I recommended he call Ed is because Ed and Gearhead recently discussed how the ATLAS 40 would work with my SRL+ and other Gearhead tunes. I am buying the Ultra FICM with ATLAS 40 in two weeks. Either way...
They both said the ATLAS 80 or higher will override any PCM tunes.
Matt said with mine anything higher than the atlas40 would over fuel. But the atlas 40 would be fine. Hope so guess we will see Ill call Ed tomorrow just to make sure
I've been running the Atlas 40 with Matt's SRL xtreme tune for 6 months with no issues. EGTs have not been an issue, even at wide open throttle. Have the 8k tow tune just in case I need to tow but that's not likely. My truck is strictly a daily driver but it's a blast.
If you go with the Atlas 40 and tow with the 8k tune, I'd like to hear how your EGTs go.
I pulled our 36 ft 5th wheel around the nation with Matt's unlimited tow tune and Atlas 40. Worked just fine. I use his 8000# tow tune for my daily driver.
zero issues with that combination.
I don't have an EGT gauge. So, really can't say how the EGT's were.

I do monitor EGT's

I just got the tuner and opted for the eco tune. It really made a difference in throttle response and acceleration (truck has never run this well). I only tow a small boat and am happy with the HP that my 6.0 has... I also am more interested in reliability than HP increase ( not saying the Atlas 40 tune is less reliable - just don't feel I need the extra 40 HP). I have a big trip to Utah coming up and will see how mileage is impacted. I may also experiment with the Atlas 40 tune later. What I am not clear on is if the Atlas 40 tune is only good if you accompany it with a PCM tune, or if it is good on its own (not clear from the posts I have read).. I am already pretty paranoid about EOT and ECT, and didn't want to add EGT to that, but maybe someone can talk me into it.
2006 f250 6.0, Bulletproof oil cooler/water pump/EGR cooler, headstuds, mishimoto intercooler/radiator/boots and some other mods (but not really performance related) - I don't run a PCM tune. Again, looking for reliability and longevity. 180K+ miles
I’ve been running Atlas40 with PCM tunes for about 50,000 miles now with no issues. 16-18mpg highway and 12-14 pulling my boat with a hotter tune and I have 35” tires, 4 1/2” lift. Same turbo as you with 4” straight exhaust. I do have the RiffRaff billet wheel in the turbo.
I didn't notice anything with just the Atlas 40, but it was like night and day when I put the SCT street tune in the PCM. Mileage didn't change enough for me to notice.
Sorry for jumping on this late.
How are your guy's smoke levels at acceleration? I'm noticing anything above 20-25% throttle it has a steady stream of black smoke. On the freeway it always has a haze of black smoke, enough to black out my rear chrome bumper.
Atlas40, Quicktricks LooneyWild modified (reduced fuel) or SRLX reduced fuel, ARP studded, Bulletproofed, O-ringed, 175/30 injectors, Barder Powermax Stage 2, 4" exhaust
I'm wondering if I go to the Eco FICM tune if it will reduce the PW enough to not smoke all the time.
As above, I’ve got the 2 tunes and only get a faint haze for a few seconds if I stomp on it after light throttle for a long time. Fuel here is good though so everything will be really clean.
