Ford's New Diesel Oil Specification On Rotella T6 Bottles

Has anyone seen Ford's new diesel oil specification on a label for Rotella T6? I know it's approved by Ford for use in their diesels but I'm wondering why the specification is not written on any bottles I have seen.

Has anyone seen any other brand of diesel oil (besides Motorcraft) with the new diesel oil specification written on the bottle? I would use Motorcraft but it's very expensive. I wouldn't care too much but I think it us formulated using Group 3 base oil stocks like Rotella so I can't justify the extra price for what I would be getting.

Bob, I haven't seen any brand add the Ford spec to the bottles themselves. I've been running Valvoline PBE and it's not on there either. I'm not saying no brand lists it as I haven't personally looked at every brand's bottle. But on the ones I've checked, it's not there.

It's on the Amsoil bottles. Don't know why it turned it sideways

That's nice to see it on the amsoil. I didn't think amsoil was on Ford's approved list yet. I have been back on the motorcraft 10w/30 waiting for amsoil to be approved

Does anyone know what changed to get Rotella T6 approved? Was it Ford or the oil formula? Thanks.

The T6 oil didn't change, Ford just approved that brand's CK-4 formulation giving it the "yes it's meets Ford OEM oil guidelines."

Then what took Ford so long to approve the new T6? Look how many on here switched from Rotella to some other oil because of the delay, and the fear of engine damage, or warranty rejection, if you stayed with T6. Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for posting the picture

Thanks for posting the picture. Maybe we'll start seeing Ford's oil specification on other brands as well.

The F1 change mainly requires phosphorus to be higher in the oils. Above 1,000 I believe.

AMSOIL has not been tested by Ford but anyone who knows this company understands they create amazing products. AMSOIL knows what the F1 standard is so the engineers then add the correct additive package to meet the standard. So even though Ford has not technically approved it does not mean it isn’t a great oil to use.

I did a virgin oil analysis on AMSOIL SS 5w40 meeting the F1 standard and phosphorus was at 1,233.

My factory fill, which is motor craft 10w30 was barely above 1,000 at 1,097.

I would love to see a fresh bottle of T6 analyzed to see where it’s numbers come in.

Ford said oils with lower phosphorus were creating premature wear patterns in the 6.7 so they upgraded the oil requirement.

Very well said Redrockerstl55! You can bet the farm if Amsoil put it on their bottles they are supremely confident that it goes above and beyond the Ford spec. Thanks for posting your results from the analysis.

The ford spec is on the new T6. Just did a change a couple of weeks ago, thankfully before it got colder outside.

I bought T6 yesterday at walmart and it didn't say meets ford specifications. just the normal ck 4 etc. Didn't say full synthetic on it either..

This is the container it was in.. says extreme temp not full synthetic like before I think.

that is different than what I bought. Mine was clearly marked and had the 15-40Wt on the front as well.

What I'm about to say here is nothing more than my personal opinion and we all know what it's worth.... This circus with T-6 began in august of 2016 when shell switched from CJ-4 to CK-4 in the 5W40 formula and then labelled it CJ-4 on the bottle, and then they don't receive Fords approval for their CK-4 formula for months... Low and behold all of the sudden for some reason their approved... now I read where some members reached out to shell and ask if the formula had been changed of course they said no and we all know big oil always tells the truth especially when it comes to profit ... Let's step back and think about it for a moment... so SHELL has an unknown amount of T-6, CK-4 sitting on the shelf that won't sell to Ford 6.7 owners if they admitted to a change in formula..... so if I was gonna use T-6 and for the record I'm not, I would need to see Fords spec number on the bottle....I'll be sticking with PBE they were approved by Ford at the beginning of the change over..

completely agree. After being mislead by the T6 debacle and wasting a bunch of money on oil, I'll NEVER use any Shell oil again. Sticking with PBE and sleeping better at night.
