Seating new Injectors and Priming
Being this is my first injector cup and injector install I did a lot of reading an research. One of the installation instructions I found mentioned that drying firing injectors was not good and could potentially damage tips. And dang if I can put my hands on it now. But it said to install UVC harness and connect glow plugs but not the injectors. Set valve covers in place and turn engine over for like 5 to 8 seconds and let rest for 10- 15 minutes to purge air in the fuel and oil systems and to build up pressure. And to repeat a couple more times.
Well I did this the first time and pulled valve covers off. I was expecting to see oil everywhere. There was no oil at all. But there was clear fluid pooling at the bottom of the heads. So I crap I thought maybe I didn't set my injectors all the way down. I took a mirror and flashlight and checked under the injector hold down and they all seemed a little gap but not much. I checked and all where torqued to 10 ftlbs. So I re-torqued to 12 as I read it was better to have a little tight than to lose. That didn't change the gaps. So I took a drift and rapped all the injector hold downs and re-torqued. And they all took about a turn to torque to 12. I did this a couple more times each time they would re-torque. Hold down gaps may have changed slightly but I'm sure that the injectors are seated.
So while investigating I felt the back of the injectors and they where wet. It appears there is like a weep hole on the bottom side of the injector solenoid. I'm sure they were dry when I installed.
So I sucked and cleaned all the fluids that pooled at he bottom of the heads and this time just placed rags over the heads. I cranked once for about 4-5 seconds and same results. No oil but clear fluid and fuel coming out of bottom of injector solenoid.
Surely I do not have bad injectors. Or have I destroyed them! I'm guessing fuel pressure has built up n fuel rail. Once the injectors are connected and the are firing the pressure wil be released into cylinder?
Gosh I hope so. But now I'm on hold because I'm not sure what to do.
