I have a 92 150 with a 5.0 in need of new injectors. I have other injectors out of other 302's but have different numbers on the side however they look the same. The one's out of my truck have a grey top and so do the others can anyone tell me if I can interchange them?
The grey top injectors are 14# units. Orange tops are 19# units. If you are swapping to 19# injectors you will probably need to install an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Fuel pressure will probably have to be lowered or you'll run excessively rich at cold-idle and WOT. Unless your modding to increase air flow then it might be best to stick with the 14#'ers.
All you should really need to service the injectors is a plenum gasket and the torx bit to fit the bolt between the "split" of the plenum. The rest of the bolts are regular hex.
Use new injector o-rings and lube them with a little oil to aid in replacing them. You might also consider replacing the injector pintle caps if you're planning on replacing with the used injectors. Napa should have all these parts for you.
I have a friend with a six cylinder that has grey top injector(14 psi) would they be the same as my injectors in my 5.0 with the grey top injectors. Also, Pigfarmer spoke of a injector pintle what are these and how are they replaced. Thank for the info.
Yes, they are the same. The pintle caps are the derby-hat shaped caps on the bottom end of the injectors. They don't really wear but if they are old enough they will get brittle. If you do replace these be very careful to not damage the delicate injector nozzle that protrudes thru the center of the pintle cap. The easiest way I found to replace them is to take something like a putty knife and heat it to a glow with a propane torch. Then take this and "cut" the pintle cap off. The cap is stuck on very tight and is almost impossible to just pull off. To replace them you just snap the new ones on.
