I have a 1986 F-150 Lariat with a 5.0 EFI, truck was manufactured 8-86. Truck was a Factory recall for Ground wire. Have finally got all ground wire problem fixed, I hope. Replaced 2 fuel pumps, 1 - Inline, 1 - in tank, bypassed rear tank. Problem did tune-up truck would not start after, replaced Distributor with 1 for a 5.0, truck wires up like a 5.8 351, was told they may have replaced cam. Truck runs but is not getting enough fuel, good fuel pressure, its in the injection system. Do I need to put a High Output distributor in it & do I need to change computer, it needs to be replaced, but do I need a different part #. Any input would be Greatly Appreciated, Thank You !
Hallo,
I have a 1986 F-150 5.0L 302 Windsor (fuel injection). The engine will start up fine when cold but will not restart after switched off when the engine is warm. Not sure if that is related but the engine is idling always high (between 1000-2000).
Thanks for helping,
Walter
Check all your vacuum hoses.
Check your vacuum tree for cracked rubber caps and cracked hoses.
You can use starting fluid, spray around all your vacuum hoses, and intake manifold gasket seams, if the idle raises higher, you found your leak.
