After many many enjoyable years with my trusted 06 the guy that's been begging me to buy it finally got his wish...I caved. He called my bluff and will be showing up here in the next few days with a bank check, so he says.
With that said, I'm now on the hunt for a 15-16 dually, Id really like to find a truck with the max tow option so I can get the wide track front end, but its not a deal breaker. I'm looking for a Lariat, or KR truck as well. I've read the tech folder, is there anything in particular I should look out for? The 6.7 is a new animal to me, and Id like this truck to last as long or longer than my current truck. Not that there is anything wrong with my 06 at this point.
I also haven't ruled out a '17 as the prices seem fairly comparable to a low mileage used 16. The problem with dealers close to me the either order stripped out xl's or loaded up Platinum's. I found a 17 close to me with everything on it that Id like except it has the 2 panel sunroof which I actually hate.
I also told the guy buying my truck if I cant find something that fits my bill I wont be pressured to by because he's hot to trot. I may regret saying that but I already started gathering parts to convert my truck into a dually so he really threw a big wrench into my plans.
Thanks for the help, and I hope within the next week or two to be a contributor over here.
I've actually been searching for quite a while, just key board dreaming really, then he shows me the check Monday night and says I'm ready.
I drove a 17 about a month ago and the dealer still has it, but the sunroof just kills it for me. The only complaint I'm going to have about a new(er) truck is the seat of the pants feel doesn't compare to my 6.0, I do realize I'm not comparing apples to apples as my trucks had lots of stuff done to it. I do know number to number a 15-17 truck makes way more power than mine does and will tow much better with the weight I have. I'm just a little hesitant to walk away from a 12 year relationship with what I have known all those years.
Boy, I'd run from a 6.0 these days. Honestly, when I had my '05 6.0L, it had all the "known problems", and luckily all happened while under warranty. It was fully stock, and at the time I loved both the sound, and the smell. that said, towing was "ok" with my 10K Trailer at the time, but going x-county, that 6.0L wouldnt hold high gear even for going over an express-way overpass. This is my 2nd 6.7L, I had a 2011, and now a 2016, and the power is amazing. Towing, very rarely a downshift unless the hills are really large. And surprisingly, what I love most, is the lack of the rattle, and the smell of diesel.
Sarge I upgraded from my 03 6.0 to a 6.7 this June. I can't believe the difference. First time I towed there was no looking back.I was hooked. Got to be the best Ford I have ever had.

Has anyone tried to add a 08-10 center console to a center jump seat truck? I'm not sure I'm sold on the flow thru console cause I'm 6'7" and my knee falls just right on the flow through that its a little annoying.
Also if I can find a new 16 what should I be looking at incentive wise to buy it. Most of the 16's are really close enough to the 17's to give them a hard look too.

The biggest difference Sarge is steel vrs. Aluminum body. Some electronics but I'm totally happy with my 2015. If you chase electronics you'll quickly be in the poor house.
From what I'm finding around here the 16's are still more money as the 17's. makes no sense to me. I found 1 a state over and MSRP was 70k and the women on the phone told me that it is what it is, no incentives on the 16' only the 17's. The truck I was looking at had a door jamb date of 6/16, so that truck is going to celebrate 2 birthdays at that dealership.
Its been 11 years since I've been in the truck buying game so I guess I'm just out of touch.
If anyone has been in my position recently let me know what you did or how you tried to make the deal on a left over 16. The 1 that I wanted to look at was sold out from under me today so I'm now back to the drawing board.
I suggest you check out ebay. My 2006 was stolen in Albuquerque and I had to get another 1-ton truck real quickly. I found a 2016 DRW crew 4x4 6.7 on ebay out of Vernon Texas for $48,600.00. That was last year and the truck was brand new from a dealer. It was about 560 miles from Albuquerque but I could not get any dealer in town to give me a deal like that, and I tried at various dealers. Good luck.
I went from a '99 to a '16. Ride comfort and towing is no comparison, you won't be getting the keys out of my hands for that. I do miss my 99, a lot of growing up as a family in that truck. Good luck searching, and post up pics. I know a local to me sells a ton on eBay, watts automotive, I think they are expensive though...pictures are usually awesome
I spoke to Vernon Auto Group a while ago when I was key board dreaming, they were very accommodating and I would buy from them, just the thought of someone driving my brand new truck 2000 miles here to me doesn't sit well.
They did offer a great price for me, but I just wasn't ready to pull the trigger. I am honestly still a little shocked this guy was actually able to buy my truck. I never woulda thought he'd pay what he did.
I will definitely check ebay though. I was searching the norms and the thought didn't cross my mind.
Sarge, are you a Costco or Sam's member? They have pre-arranged discounts with participating dealers. No haggling, the dealer is bound to their, Costcos, contract. AAA in s. Ca. also has these agreements. Check with your insurance company to see if they participate.
I'm heading out of state in the morning to go look at a left over 16 Lariat, they gave me a price of over 10k off the sticker before I even walk through the door. I'm not sure if that's a fair deal or not but the trucks MSRP is 68 and some change and they quoted me 56400. It has everything I want except for the trailer prep.
They also have a King Ranch on the lot with all the options but its 6k more, and honestly I'm not a fan of painted bumpers, or the Orange stitching, or heated rear seats so its not a deal breaker. Ill just need to find the stuff to install the factory hitch stuff.
The only down side to this truck is its a 3.73 truck, I was hoping for a 4.10 but I can make due with that as well.
Welcome to the 6.7 club Sarge. I made the switch a year ago from my 06 dually to a 14 dually. Just no comparison. The 6.7 stock has more power than my tuned 6.0. I live in Texas (northwest Houston) and there are plenty of dually's here. Don't know if there are any new 16s left but I'm sure you could find a low mile 15 or 16 easily. Fly down, drive it home.
