Just purchased a 2005 F250 ( V10) from the GMC / Buick dealer last week. When trying the truck out I didn't try the 4x4 at the dealers since it was on asphalt and it comes with a 30 day 1,000 mile warranty. I advised the salesman I'd try it at home in the grass. The 4wheel drive works great , however I don't have any kind of indicator showing it's engaged (light). All the 4 wheel drives I've had in the past have had something showing 4x4 was engaged other than an old 71 jeep I had. I called the dealership and there saying they didn't think this model has anything. The local Ford dealership was no help either. I want the dealership to fix it under warranty, but I need to know for sure it has something. Anyone have a 2005 f250 that can say for sure it has a 4x4 indicator light? Pics would be great.
To the right of the fuel gauge along the bottom of the display. First should be "low range" just to the right of that should be "4x4".
Put it in low range and see if that light comes on. Actually move the truck to make sure it's in 4low.
Man I tried it every way possible. I bet I did twenty laps around my house day and night . I still see no light of any kind . I can see where it should be , but no light . My friend has a 2006 and yes it's got one . Mine is a Lariat edition if that changes anything, though I don't think it does .

when you have it in 4x4 and are turning, you should feel it binding up. If not, it may not actually be in 4wd.
i'd have the dealer "prove" it to you that it's working
Yeah the four wheel drive is definitely working high and low . The rear locker binds up when turning no problem . I know the light is petty and minor , but when you pay what you do for trucks I'd expect it right from a dealership. I've been back and fourth with them and they haven't even called me back going on three days now . Someone has to have a 2005 !!!!

for what it's worth in terms of dealing with the dealer, if you put a small flashlight right on the spot where the "4x4" is supposed to light up, you might be able to see the outline if the "4x4". If you can, then show it to the dealer to prove that it's there and not lighting up.
If it's just a blown bulb, then it doesn't matter a whole lot. However, if it's not that simple, I would be concerned about what may be causing it and what other problems it may cause that haven't shown up yet.
Yeah you can see the outline with a flash light . I brought that up to them also . They basically said that ford used the same face for several years and that doesn't mean this truck had an indicator.
Tell them Bull****. IF the vehicle has 4 wheel drive it has an indicator that is supposed to be functional. Big trucks, expeditions, explorers, rangers...all of them. Heck, that's a safety issue. My guess is you may need to find an owners manual to prove it to them.
Yeah I told them it was in the owners manual. There response was " They use the same manual several years before they change".. I'm gonna call the general manager tomorrow, since the salesman hasn't returned my call in three days.
