im having a problem with getting the correct gas mileage on my expedition like when i go to put gas in it will say i have 200 miles to empty but after driving a few miles it will drop to 180 for some reason.... other times when i take it for a drive i look at my miles to empty and compare it to miles driven they do not match for example i had 200 miles to empty but after 10 miles it says it took like 17 miles off to empty so im not getting the correct driven miles to miles to empty dont match up so what is causing this problem i have changed the oil and filter added marvel mystery oil put seafoam into gas tank and even used throttle bottle spray so im not sure what else i can do to fix this problem
The DTE number is calculated based on your average MPG and the amount of fuel left in the tank. As your average MPG changes or if fuel sloshing around in the tank is causing the float to rise and lower to often, then the DTE will be constantly changing.
If your average MPG is rather constant, then the issue is with the fuel level sender and has nothing to do with how the engine is running.
I dont understand I mean why does the miles to empty tell me 200 miles to E but after driving say 10 miles it drops to 180 thats a loss of almost 10 miles of gas somewhere im not getting the correct miles driven to miles empty ratio... My truck use to get like 400 miles off of full tank of gas now it gets to empty around 250 miles
If you're only seeing about 250 on a tank, then I would say your fuel gauge is reading empty when you still have about 1/2 a tank. This will also mess with the DTE reading.
yea but its not only the DTE thats reading miles to empty fast but gas gauge hand goes down fast as well im not getting the full 420 miles of a tank the gas hand is on E when there is about 250 still in gas tank

Which goes right back to what I said about the fuel level sender being faulty. Like Sterling6.7 just said, switch to manual calculations and see what you get.
