Removing diesel-oil-whatever from camper (pics added)

Yeah, apparently my Excursion is still dripping or exhausting oil or whatever. It is making a light splatter on the front and all down the side of our 2005 Keystone Cougar 304BHS camper. It looks terrible

I believe it is filon sided fiberglass. The fibers are easily visible in many places (by design), which leads me to believe it is filon. I am not an expert

It does not have any wax or anything on it. We recently scrubbed the roof with lots of Dawn and planned to do a surface restoration at some point, but haven't yet.

After towing a few trips, it has these spots of grease/soot/oil whatever all over it, like we drove through a light skim of oil, but pretty sure it is coming from my Excursion.

Suggestions on removing it and sealing up the camper? We have a trip coming up and time is short.

Thanks!

"awesome" takes it off. Not acetone, not simple green, not Dawn.

What is a good wax coating to protect it from our diesel byproducts?

Haha.

Well, no top end oil leaks, BUT...

Oil drain plug gasket leaks. I picked up stuff to change the oil and new GM drain plug gaskets. Likely tomorrow.

Oil pan small leak. Yeah, don't we all

Rear differential front pinion seal leak. Likely Thursday eve.

Soot in the exhaust? Had it for a long time. Once I figure out the boost leak or limiting issue, I plan to get with Gearhead to resolve it.

There is a topside fuel leak somewhere. Fuel bowl is rebuilt, some of the Parker fittings replaced. I think I'm going to switch out the stock fuel lines to the heads with hydraulic lines. Saw a writeup somewhere. Tired of dealing with junk little pieces of rubber hose as gaskets that can only be removed once or three times.

Regardless....

We have most of the filon/fiberglass stripped to no wax or anything from washing, and now with Awesome cleaner.

So a good wax and protection from elements AND diesel byproducts would be quite helpful

Before this I never thought about our leaky trucks and what a mess that stuff can make on campers

I believe it is petroleum, likely oil. No particles, just smudges.

Some pics

After cleaning...

I get exhaust burns on both sides of the 5'r just from exhaust. (I have dual)

Quality carnuba wax after a deep clean and a mild soap solution tears it right off with no ambition.

2 coats.

Thanks, it's is good to know there is "hope" LOL.

I knew it couldn't be just me, with leaks, smoke, even the CCV throwing oil into the intake, it seems like it would be a common issue for us

Just an observation FWIW that looks more like soot to me. Used to have same looking stuff all over the boats in the harbor when the power plant would "clean" the stacks. For "some reason" they always did it at night.

Use some TSP to clean the dirt/stuff off.

Amazon Amazon

Then use some polish to protect it. Might take a few light coats to give it a good shine.

ZEP 128 oz. High-Traffic Floor Polish-ZUHTFF128 - The Home Depot

I also have some BarKeepers Friend cleaner that I use on really tough spots.

Amazon Amazon

If it is indeed a fuel (or other petroleum) product which is dirtying up your panels, waxes are going to be a continual replacement item. I wonder if some of the "sturdier" automotive paint sealants/coatings may be effective as a longer lasting alternative. I'm not really familiar with handling RV exterior materials, so it's just a thought.

I do plan to find and resolve any leaks, but it will take some time

Going the wax will hold up for these next few weeks. Don't want to look like Beverly Hillbillies

The Zep floor polish I posted about is the same thing as Poli-Glow. When you have a few moments, Google it and see what it does for fiberglass and surfaces of that nature.

Take it with a grain of salt, but I get that crap on Mine all the time, That's Road oil. Most of the time it's bugs, My truck has no leaks, (so far)that make it out the back. And the ones that do are caught by my Mud flaps. The Road oil is unavoidable, as are the bugs, they both come out when it's hot, But Black Streak remover has removed them all. And I use a Polymer bonded liquid wax called NU Shine once a year and it keeps the cleaning manageable. The front Cap however is a whole nother animal, It's plastic, Everything sticks to it, and the finish fades from the sun quickly. The Polymer slows it down, a little. but the shine is toast.
