So I finally found the problem with cylinder number 8
30k mile surviver
And this may have caused it
WTF this fell out of #8 exhaust port
The good news is the cylinder wall is in excellent shape. No scratches, but it's polished to a near mirror finish. I hope I can hone it back to like new condition so it matches all the other cylinders.
WOW looks a little chewed up in there.
If the taper and the bore is not out of round then you might make it.
Your going to need some "T" gauges of a bore gauge to tell for sure.
Yes, hopefully I will have my Excursion back on the road soon, glow plug and injector are not damaged. The valve faces are intact but I think the intake valves are bent as the related pushrod was slightly bent. I had the intake off before the melt down when I did a BPegr and standpipe upgrade so perhaps it's a bolt or previous owner part.
The mystery piece is magnetic, anyways for future reference if anyone finds themselves in a similar situation, I unplugged the injector and drove it this way for years, even passed two smog checks.
I just remembered to ask you guys your opinion on using the #8 injector in my new engine. It's literally been just sitting there doing nothing since I installed it. Initially I was hoping it was a bad injector so I changed all 4 on that side way back when it **** the bed. I've ran out of dough to buy a new set of injectors so I'm planning on re oringing mine.

Luck has been with you now this long with that piston and still driving it so maybe that number 8 inj will play along too, i dont see how it didnt hammer the tip off with that cold hard alum pieces flying around in it.
The tip looks fine, and so does the injector tip from my new donor engine that also had a melted piston and a melted exhaust valve. Being the injectors are dead center in the chamber seems to be the reason for their surviving the carnage.
All it would take is one hit to make a crack that your not going
to be able to see with the eye. Then if it is cracked later down
the road the tip finally fails and starts dumping fuel. Bad Day.
If it were me I think at the least I would replace the nozzle
with a fresh stock one or go with a reman injector. Not worth
an engine over $206. Cheap insurance.
