Building the 51 F1 parts truck.

As many of you know im building 4 different trucks.
2 are Coes and 2 are the same years f1s. The 51 F1 was a mismatched parts truck with a 48-50 bed I bought off a friend to save from the scrapper. Time has come to start investing some time and money into it.
This is how i towed it home and how it sits.
Gauges were there and glass still in it.
Its a lil rough but was not my first choice to start on. Problems with the 48 flathead forced me to change direction.
We built a SBF to go into it .i need it mobile this summer so it doesn't slow down the progress on others.
Body has the normal rotted areas altough some have been finished since this pic.
Most parts are there but this was his parts truck he so took what he needed. My plan for now is to put in the motor and trans and finish the body work . Have it drivable and repair the metal.to get it in primer.

Good luck with it, at least it isn't picked to death like my first F1 was! Amazing how we build stuff now that we never would of considered saving years ago.

Im thinking its as we get older we identify with rotted trucks more like a mechanical version of ourselves. Of course Dave you are not quite that old yet.

Cleaned out the fuel tank yesterday. Did a good assessment of metal needing replacement.. started boxing frame . Made plates for motor mount ,
Welded nut on back side before welding on plates

Making motor mounts

I decided to try to design some mounts that wouldn't be too hard to remove and would not rock the frame with the performance cam.

The nuts welded inside the boxing plate act to hold it to frame.
Ford holes are 7 inch apart .the curve back helps with a spring type action.

Between the two is vibration dampner rubber . I am hoping to use my existing headers and have room for the spin on oil filter.Since I'm trying not to spend too much on this truck so I can spend it on the others I will be making most all the things myself.

Motor is in and working on transmission mounts.

It seems I may have a little adjusting to do for the engine to be exactly were I want it but it's in and looking good.

My measurements had me to the passenger side by 1 3/4 inch but after got the engine was only 1 inch.
After all the leveling and measuring it still may need to raise it a little.
It feels good seeing the engine and tranny in.

Looks great, liking the slightly flexible motor mounts! Will keep watching your build to maybe steal some great ideas.

Starter interference

After putting motor in I tried several headers and went with the shorty but they wouldn't go on.what I found out is 1987 starters are shorter so when I got one they fit. Now looks like I need a heat sheild.
Wow thats tight. What dhould i use for heat shield?
All the other starters were too long. I wish i payed more attention to the posts about this .
Well making progress on this one when not working on the Coe.

Here is my Top 10 list of excuses.
1 I'm older now and just cant get as much done.
2 My wife has increased her honey do list.
3 The young girls keep distracting my sons and its harder to get any work from them on their days off.
4 Many days it was too hot to be outside.
5 It rained alot.
6 I was too busy working on the Coe.
7 Took me forever to find those parts and that 10 mm wrench.
8 Busy doing everything for everybody else.
9. I under estimated the amount of work needed.
10 Murphy's law.

What is a "10 mm wrench" and why do you need one for an old ford.
Not sure how I missed this thread.
So, if you have to remove the starter do you need to remove the headers?
