2018 F150 with 3.0L Diesel... Any thoughts about an Expedition 3.0L Diesel???
So since it has been official that Ford FINALLY Listened to their customers and albeit they have brought out a small displacement 3.0L V6 from Europe to North America much like Dodge AKA Ram has. What are the chances that Ford will be even smarter and put that Diesel into the 2018 Expedition????
I really do like my current 2013 Expedition HOWEVER I HATE the lack of towing ability I have in it versus my retired and sold long gone 2004 Excursion with my favorite loud sounding pots and pan banging 6.0L PSD. I refuse to buy a EcoBoost Expedition hence why I am driving the 5.4L BUT I want a diesel in my Expedition.
I tow a 24' Sea Ray Sundeck boat just about every weekend in the summer time and don't slip it because I enjoy taking the kids away to go boating for the weekend. But I absolutely hate that when I am towing it I am LUCKY to get 10MPG with it. Its a FAR Cry from my Excursion which I would pull off easily 16-18 MPG while towing.
SO yeah, any feedback or rumors that are legit to whether or not Ford may actually bring out a PSD in the Expedition. I might end up buying the F150 but its not that practical for me since I do need the space and storage of the Expedition.
There's a reason they don't put a diesel in an expedition. It's designed to be more of a family vehicle and not a workhorse. If you want a workhorse you buy an F-truck.
I'm not sure id like the diesel even if it was even money. I'm all about working the expedition to its capacity, but i don't see a diesel being a good fit in my life.
Still on the fence about the ecoboost, but not a real fan of the 5.4 either...
If it had the same specs as the 1/2 ton Ram then the Ecoboost will out perform it in every way, except mileage. My 15' Expedition EL gets 16-18mpg empty and I got 10mpg while towing 8600#. I've owned a diesel (F350 with 7.3) and can say that I have no interest in having one in my Expedition. People just want to gas and go with cheap oil changes.
All that said, I firmly believe they should give the option just like the trucks. Ecoboost, 5.0, or 6 cylinder diesel. I think they would sell more.
I have a 04 Navigator and my wife has the 15 Navigator. The EB is better all the way around, including better towing #'s. Also the ability to cheaply add power (tuning) compared to the 5.4L.
