After 225,000 miles, my turbo appears to have failed -- not spinning. This is a stock turbo that is unaltered. Yes, I change my oil and filter every 3000 miles.
My question is; what is a reliable after-market replacement part that will bolt up?
I would take the turbo apart and see what failed before you go shopping for a whole new unit. They're about $600 or $700 for a reman, but you might have other damage or problems that you don't know about, or a simple rebuild might get you back on the road.
Do you let it cool down before you shut it off, or do you kill it as soon as you put it in park?
The turbo grenaded itself on my '02 F250. I bought a really good reman from Ron's Turbo in Salt lake City, Ut. He installs better bearings and this unit had a Banks impellar which let it spool up quicker for better boost at a lower rpm. It cost about $675 to the door.......... I might add, a real pain the keester to install, for me anyway but it woked great.
