Was doing an oil change on my '15 Transit today and got the idea to shoot a slow motion video through the oil fill cap. This has the same 3.7L engine that they put in the F150, so I figured I'd share it here. This was at idle, and I'm pretty impressed with how much oil reaches the top of the head.
This little window seems to show a LOT more oil flow than a 6.4L Powerstroke engine. These engines are plagued with rocker arm issues that are presumed to be caused by lack of oil flow.
Thanks Tom. As the owner of a 3.7 powered F-150, I gotta say that this little powerhouse continues to impress me. The way this engine is tuned, and the way the truck is geared, there are very few flat spots in the torque curve. And when I need to get on it, or if I just feel like puttin' the hammer down a little more than usual, this truck will just get right to it! I won't lie, I really do wish I had a V8! But I also cannot say one bad thing about this 3.7 either. Even in this heavy-a** 4x4 truck, that little motor has some decent guts!
And it feels nice and tight and smooth. Overall it portrays a sense of quality that gives me the confidence that this truck will last a long time. For the most part I baby it and generally try not to ask much from it. I've only had it since April and haven't had the opportunity to tow or haul anything heavy yet. I did have the truck off-road once back in August, and it performed flawlessly.
Anyone who has driven a Mustang with this 3.7 can attest that it is an absolute rocket when bolted to a chassis that can really take advantage of its power curve . Go !!
By the way, if anyone can identify the two kidney-shaped pieces on the air intake tube and tell me what they're for, that would be great!
Exactly. I think the proper somewhat scientific name is, Heimholtz resonator. Same idea behind "J" pipes on an exhaust system.
Okay, that makes some sense. Thanks John. I've looked around for a cold-air intake kit to install on this truck, but no one makes a kit for the 3.7 motor. I could always buy the parts and pieces to make my own.
