Hi, I have a '15 Ford F-350 w/ 6.7 - 34k miles. Most of my driving is towing a 30'RV trailer. Today, without any trailer, I was on a local interstate and at around 65 mph on a bumpy stretch of highway the death wobble started. Had it come and go 3 times in a few miles requiring me to slow to about 45 or so to stop it. Never had any such happening prior.
Any experience out there with death wobble, suggestions, remedies? Has this been addressed by FORD and any service bulletins about it ? I plan to make an appointment with FORD for service ASAP to get their take on it.
Yes it has. Posts have been made by Averill, Karl4cat and others. SRW or dually? Some have had success with Ford putting new shocks, stabilizer and a few even ball joints. However, after experiencing this, most forgo the Ford shocks and stabilizer and put on Bilstein products. I had this in happen in the hills of Kentucky in my dually pulling a 16k fifth wheel. I replaced mine with 4600 Bilstein shocks and 5100 stabilizer. So much difference I could tell it before I got out of my driveway. Plus, as Rodney said, they really shine when loaded heavily.
Good luck. Others will be along shortly to help out as well.
I have an appt. at FORD on Monday so we'll see what they have to say. I drove the same road later today but a bit slower. The potholes that initiated the wobble were noticeable and felt in the steering but wobble did not occur this time.
As I understand it, this sort of thing is very rare in a stock truck with factory wheels/tires.
If my stone-stock truck ever started shaking like that, the dealership would be keeping it until it was resolved while I started writing letters (on paper) to Ford while making careful notes of dates/times etc. Those would be important to me as I would most likely be seeking legal remedies if the mfgr and dealer could not resolve.
I have not experienced this while towing. It just appeared the other day just a few days since we returned from a 14,000 mile trip towing. I have an appt. at Ford on Monday so I'll report back on what they find / say. I plan to have them service the transmission while there. Want to avoid any " down the road issues".
I wonder if that new gizmo they put by the spare tire to help with the wobble some of us get at 40-50 mph would also help with the death wobble. I still want to get that installed, I just have to figure out a good time to bring the truck in to address it.
My death wobble story shortened...bone stock 11' 250 cc lb 4x4. Original tires about 35k miles. Never off road. Ford replaced all joints in steering, new stabilizer and shocks. Still occurred empty and towing. It took a new track bar by ready lift called anti wobble track bar and dual steering stabilizers by pro comp. looking back the trac bar alone would have been enough most likely.

It'll take two visits Dak. 1st to verify your eligible and 2nd to install after they get the part. They're on back order. They ordered mine 2 weeks ago and still waiting. If they ask you if you've had the problem since new the correct answer is yes.
The death wobble is usually easily cured by either lifting the truck or track relocation bracket. It's always solve the problem in the past, I'm purchasing a ReadyLift relocation bracket this week to get my truck back under control and put the axle in the right location since the two inch lift actually moved it to the driver side that much kind of funny.
As far as the 45 mile-an-hour bounce one good thing I can concur since adding leaf springs to the back of the truck the 45 mph to 50 mph hop is gone stock shocks
Well, it did it again. Same stretch of highway. It's a long sweeping ramp to the left. Slight downgrade with a somewhat rough concrete finish. I entered the turn at 60mph and as soon as I hit the rough spot ( no potholes just spalled finish ) the wobble begins and just get's worse until I slow down to about 45 or so. The dealer said they could not get it to happen in their test drive so maybe I'll offer to take them for a spin.
Mine 2011 used to do that when I came out of the SLC Airport and long sweeping left radius at 50-60 mph. Ford swapped out the steering stabilize and that helped for a while and as it returned I swapped out shocks and tires and it went away for next 60,000 miles. When it returned I replaced the front steering stabilizer with a Bilstien and still had some problems. Which turned out to be my front Hub/Bearings. Replacing those fixed the problem and ran the 50,000 miles till I sold the truck with no problems.
So bottom line it could be caused by several problems
