Hi all, I recently purchased a 1967 Ford F250 Good Humor Ice Cream Truck !

The truck was running, but now it turns over but won't start - it is getting spark, but spraying starter fluid directly into carb doesn't help , we also poured gasoline directly into carb but still won't start - I changed fuel filter still no help - I think there me be a carberator problem, because with all the starting attempts, I still don't smell gasoline near carb - strait 6 motor 1 barrel carb - can anyone suggest what I should do ? - thanks

Three things for combustion air / fuel / spark.
If you have spark at the plug and you know it's getting air, (maybe run a compression check to verify the valves are closing) the starter fluid, (and pouring gas into the top of the carb) should have started it.
Has it sat for awhile? Our gas nowadays is crap that can go bad in just a month of sitting.
Fuel pressure gauge is a cheap investment to verify if the fuel pump is working or not.

Pictures!

I had an engine that passed a compression check, but did not pass a leak down check. Had several warped valves, you could hear the air leaking past the valves through the carb.

Welcome!

Man I could use some ice cream right now. Need some more information. Type of ignition. Stock or upgraded. If you have fuel, air and spark the truck should fire as long as the spark is coming at the right time. You may have a bad set of points or condenser. Could also be a problem with the vacuum advance. Could also be a worn distributor. If you disconnect the fuel line and turn the engine over you should get fuel. These are some thing to check.

Oh welcome to FTE

it's prolly a spark problem since even starting fluid didn't get it to kick. You may have spark but it's either a weak spark or the plugs are firing at the wrong time. The positive wire from the truck is hooked to the "+" terminal on the coil, correct? And the wire coming from the Dizzy (distributor) is hooked to the "-" terminal on the coil, correct? With the timing marks at "0" (TDC) and #1 cylinder on the compression stroke pop the Dizzy cap off and see if the rotor is pointing at #1 terminal.

First, check the distributor with the cap off. Have someone crank the engine. Make sure the rotor in the distributor is turning

I bet it'll keep cases of adult beverages nice n cold! I'd repaint it to be the ultimate tailgate rig... You'd be real popular in the infield of Talladega Superspeedway.

Air-fuel-spark. Make it happen.

2X. Good Humor and Adult Beverages goes hand in hand like points and (USA made) condensers.

As hot as it is back east, you could rent "chill out" cots inside it and sell adult beverages too! Welcome to THE forum.

You also need compression and that is one of the first basic things to check. Even with air/fuel/spark, it can't run with less than about 80 psi. You might have washed down the cylinder walls.

Hope to see some pictures! Of the truck, that is. Whatever goes on inside, I don't necessarily need to see....

I agree with this ^^^. If it were a carb problem the starting fluid would have at least made it run for a few seconds.

Welcome to the forums.

Sounds like distributor problems. You need to check to see if #1 is at TDC and the rotor is pointing at #1 wire. If it ran, then doesn't and has spark, then you need to make sure it is firing at the right time. It may be sparking, but if it is not firing at the right time it will never run.

Could be a shear pin on the distributor gear?
