I have a nice 2013 SuperCab F150 FX4 5.0L 3.55 gears 6.5ft bed 53K miles with a matching cab height topper and full carpet kit. I found a left over brand new 2015 SuperCab F250 Lariat 6.2L 3.73 gears 8ft bed that is being offered for a big markdown.
The wife would like to move up from the cab height topper that we sleep in occasionally to a pop up in the bed style camper with a shower and toilet. I have seen some light weight models that you can put in a 1/2 ton truck but I think that a 3/4 ton would handle it better. That plus the longer bed allows for a larger camper.
This is a very light weight camper that I used to carry in my 1/2 ton 03' F150. It handled it fine until I'd go offroad. No comparison between it and my 14' F350 especially when I take it offroad. Get the new truck and don't look back

What do you think?
Just get her an off road commode and be done with it!
I currently drive a '16 F350 for work. Got it brand-new, and it's a CCLB XL with 4.30 gears. An absolute chore to drive compared to my F150, and performance isn't even close because of all the extra weight you're hauling around. Nothing wrong with the Super Duty, but you make a lot of sacrifices going to a heavier chassis like that. Definitely the better option for a slide-in camper, but you'll be paying for that every time you drive it unloaded. The fuel economy penalty is also significant, which may mean more if gas goes back up.
Take it for a good test drive and make an informed decision.
Yeah, there is definitely a trade off. I spend a LOT of time in my F350 and wouldn't want anything else but when I get in my wife's expedition I feel like all the roads are paved perfectly and lanes/parking spaces are huge.
Some people really don't adapt well so make sure you're okay with it. There are some good ways to beef up the 150 for more stability when loaded up.
Then again, the long bed and bigger cab, you're looking at gaining an awful lot more room with the 250.
I just did this type of exchange 09 F150 to 2011 F250. I really like the 250 but they are not bigger in the back of the cab due to the seat design of the 150 vs 250. I am referring to how much room you have when the seat is folded up as well as much legroom is there. Don't get me wrong there is a lot of room just not as much in the 250 as the 150.
This is not enough to make me regret my decision. I like the behind the seat storage in the 250. This is not present in the 150, at least it was not in my 2009.
The truck is more capable all around and this is why I stepped up. I want to be in the green when towing or hauling as opposed to always being in the yellow/red.
I only need a back seat for my dog, I feel you need a 4 door to have a comfortable back seat for a person. I know there will be a fuel cost, but it isn't a daily driver. My shiny truck is my RV, I have a one ton flat bed plow truck for all the dirty work.
If the deal isn't within my set boundaries then I will just keep the 1/2 ton and end up with a light weight camper and some air bags.
Heading into town to see if I can work a deal...thanks again. This is my current 1/2 ton.

Good luck. I did better selling my 150 myself and walking in with cash. Keep us posted.
Definitely get the super duty. I drove a f150 for 10 years before I bought a f350. I like the feel of the 350 way better. Even if I didn't need it for work I'd get the 350. My last 1500 miles I'm averaging 15.8 mpg.
No Deal No Deal No Deal...offered me $23K for my loaded FX4 and they have a same year XLT on the lot asking $25K for it. I told them that for $23K I would keep the topper, wheels and tires, and the cab, they could have the chassis.
The F250 had been sitting so long that the battery was dead and the tires had flat spots. It took about 5 miles to get the tires to stop shaking.
Am I crazy wanting $35K for this truck? 55K miles every option except the big sticker stripe, sunroof, and 20" wheels. I wouldn't mind a sunroof but I didn't want 20" wheels with low profile tires on an off road truck.
I'm a couple of years away from buying the camper so I'll just wait it out.

Yes, I would say you are crazy for wanting $35K for your truck. No offense toward you with my comment at all as I just traded my 2007 Tundra with only 78,000 miles on it for my 2016 F250 and they only gave me $16k for it. And, those Tundras hold their value pretty well. I see truck is also a super cab and most of the market wants a crew cab today so that does not help your cause but it is a great looking truck in my opinion.
I see you are in Laramie, I am in Casper. You know what the economy is like here right now with the oil and gas market and the used truck market is not very good. Two years ago I could have sold my Tundra for $22k within a day or two and this time around, I put it out with a sign on it on a busy street and never even got a call.
Now, regarding the Super Duty, there is no comparison between the half ton and Super Duty trucks but it depends on what you are wanting to do with it. Like you, I am planning on pulling heavier loads but not to the point where I could justify the diesel. I ordered mine specifically because I wanted the 4.30 rear end to get the lower torque for towing and I could not be happier.
Drive it, for more than just a few blocks so you can get a really good feel for it and then make your decision. Good luck!
