Morning guys, I'm at work and I've got a project on the boat that I need some help with. My engine room has aluminum diamond plate deck plates. Its a big space maybe 50'x 40' with various different size pieces of plate. I can bring them up on the stern to polish them. I have a Dewalt 7" grinder that's an 8000 rpm non variable speed. So, question what do I need to get this job done? I'll need a compound (bar), polish or a combination of both and a buffing wheel for the grinder but I have no idea where to start; so much info out there but It's daunting and I need to put in a "requisition" for whatever's needed so the company's buyer can get the products coming. We usually buy from Grainger or McMaster Carr. So basically I need to know what products to order. Any help with this will be great.. The other engineer totally ****ed up the deck plates by acid washing them and they look like dull **** now; I've been pissed off since I got on the boat last night... You can see that the last pic still has a few that are polished, he didn't get a chance to screw those up yet.. Thanks guys.
This is gonna be a tough one. Only thing I can think of is to contact one of those guys that polishes big trucks. Try the Peterbilt 379 enthusiast's page on facebook. There's a couple of guys on there that post pretty regularly and I think they may have some u-tube videos up also.
Thanks man, looks like some familiar stuff.. Unfortunatly our major accts are with Grainger and McMaster Carr.. If I had free rein then this would be a lot easier I'm sure..
For polishing aluminum, I've had some experience with Busch, Wicked and Magic Mix products with some decent success. However once things are acid washed white, hard to beat plan rouge bars as listed on the McMaster-Carr website. Buffing out aluminum makes a mess, but rouge bars in steps work pretty well.
