Power Window motor removal

I have a prob. with the drivers power window motor in my bronco. I checked the switch with a multimeter and it looks good(stupid guy I bought it from lied). I can hear the window motor click, but wont go up and down. I figured it was the motor and am trying to remove it. This is where my problem is. I cant figure out how to get the motor out. I removed 2 screws that looked like they held the motor on but that didnt really do anything.

On our '88 the power window has a screw that is hidden by sheetmetal. I followed the directions in the Chilton's and drilled a hole and it gave me access to the screw. You can see a dimple in the sheetmetal where the hole needs to be drilled (almost like someone used a drift punch). Also, our problem was not the motor, but the gear set. You can buy this seperately.

Thanks! I got the motor out. With the motor I have, all it will do is make a click. It wont spin at all. I removed the front part of the motor and there was a bunch of stuff that fell out that looked like black dirt and white corrosion(only a tiny bit).

Also does anyone know what vehicles in a junkyard that I can get this from? Fullsize bronco's are extreemly rare in the yards.

If you replace the plastic drive gear, it comes w/ a lubrication pack. If motor was trying to work, that may be all you need. I fixed two on my 90 Bronco w/ gear replacement.

The door switches can be disassembled and cleaned, if that's the problem.

good luck

i got mine from a town car and it worked fine ..lol ..runs a bit faster then the old one but is just fine ..also drilling the holes in the sheet metal to remove is the best way to remove them..1 other thing a friend of mine replace them plastic gear deals with nuts. not sure of the size but that might be a thought..Myself I say do it right the first time and you will save yourself the time of doing it over..good luck

Hey I have one more question. Will the motors work for the rear window too? Or is that completely different?

The rear window motor is the same as the passenger side window motor. The other fella is right, most of the time the problem is the plastic gearset. you can get them at the parts store for around $25.

Would the gearset cause the motor to seize up though? Thats the reason I was thinnking it was the motor itself.

It's been a few years, but if I remember right, it's just a matter of swapping out the plastic gears. If you haven't yet, get your new gearset and it might help clear things up for you.

Ok, I was thinking about gearing down my window motors to give them more power.. can someone tell me how to tell what gear ratio I have now and what ratio I should be looking at?
