New to the forum, I just bought my first ford a few months ago (1994 F150, 302, 5spd, XLT, 4x4). I love the truck and I have been busy fixing minor problems with it. Now I've found something I'm a little stumped on. Hopefully the right place for this, if not please move. I noticed there is an exhaust leak behind the intake manifold the other day, from what I can determine it is a cracked thermactor tube.
Here's my question.. If I go about blocking off the openings in the heads rather than replacing the tube what other SMOG components need to go? I'd like to keep the EGR, I've read that removing it will cause CEL? I live in MT so there's no emissions! I'll also be replacing the cat, and exhaust soon.. something to keep in mind. Any diagrams & pictures would be really helpful! BTW everything on the truck is stock.

Reason: forgot info
get rid of the smog pump and anything related to it, you can get a pulley or a shorter belt. you may get a check engine quick flash every 3000 miles maybe? also it doesnt get stored into the computer so no worries really. it may develope a lobey idle like mines does. plug off the tab and tad vacuum lines by the ignition coil and your golden
Since posting this thread I've actually discovered what the actual problem was. It wasn't the thermactor tube (thank god). I peice if the EGR tubing had come loose from the valve. Got a hose clap and put it back together and she's good to go! MPG took a huge jump too. Before I was getting 9-10 in town and now I'm getting 14-15!!
