I've never heard of that happening. I've heard of slipped cylinder liners and distorted cylinders before, but never a rod bearing failure. Not saying that they don't happen, but it's certainly not common.
Are you looking at a new or used truck? The 5.0L has had some teething issues much like the ecoboost but I'm not confident that any of these issues were chronic on either engine based on the sheer numbers that have been built.

Also, the new Coyote 5.0 is a different beast than the old 302 5.0 that was found in the 80s & 90s Mustangs, trucks, Explorers, etc.
I haven't heard of anymore issues with the 5.0 than any of the other engines. Bad ones get out there and these forums make the problems seem worse than they really are because usually the people that are happy with the product don't say anything.
