PLEASE HELP! 2002 f250 7.3 won't start cold

I have an issue with my 7.3.... the truck will not start if it sits overnight without being plugged in, even in 65 degree weather. It starts and runs with a rough idle for about 10 seconds after its been plugged in for an hour, after the rough idle is gone it runs great .. it will Stat back up as long as the truck is warm (70°+).... I've replaced the batteries, glow plugs, starter (it was going bad) and fuel filter. .. also replaced the gpr today. .... please help me out with ideas

Ideas:

1. Try 5W-40 full synthetic oil in the crankcase

2. Try anti gelling additive in the fuel tank

Thanks for the reply, it's 45 degrees here, I didn't think the waxes started to harden until 32 or below, it is definitely due for an oil change, I have about 7000 on this go.... I normally run Rotella t series 15-40

I had a bad problem with cold hard starts and I replaced everything as well glow plugs, gpr, fuel filter, everything I could think of and I felt with hard starts, leaving the truck plugged in. Till this year I switched to 5 w 40 full synthetic and boy was it a world of difference on cold starts. It starts right up and don't have romps any more wish I would have done it sooner

All good info. 5W40 will be your best friend. Rotella T6 is preferred by some on here, while others prefer Mobile 1 Turbo Diesel or Valvoline Premium Blue.

When you do the oil change add ARCHOIL 9100 ...full 16oz to the oil. I think I had a very bad case of stiction in the injectors so I ran some 10w30 Rotella with the Archoil for about 1000 miles then flushed it and the HPOP then changed to Rotella T6 5w/40 with another bottle of Archoil. It has completely changed my truck cold starts and how it idles/runs.
The truck started Saturday at 12* without being plugged in which was huge. I'm pretty sure I need injectors but this is helping.
The ar6200 included in the link will help the fuel side of the injectors. I also used their 6400D (cleaner) with the 6200... Can definitely tell there's a difference!!

Archoil AR9100 16oz and AR6200 8oz Kit! Perfromance Bundle! Powerstroke! Friction Modi... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00WAK0QXE..._UbAGwbFG680S2

Hope this helps!

How long are you letting the glow plugs "do their thing"? If you are only using the WTS light, that isn't enough when it is cold out. Try letting them cycle for 45 seconds or so before engaging the starter.

It not good to switch to a synthetic oil your seal's are set for normal oil run 10 w30 if anything
Did you test for power at the intake heater and glow plugs it could be the solenoid has gone bad

Hi Dillion7.3 and welcome to FTE!

Here's a thread where I went through a complete "test" to show the difference in the oils.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post16192687

Oh- and unless you are running a bypass filter, don't go past 5k on the oil. Your truck will hate you for it, LOL.

Good luck, you should notice an immediate difference with synthetic 5w-40w

I think this is not the case anymore with modern oils, if it ever were true to begin with. Plenty of people switch between synthetic and Dino all the time with no issues at.
