I'm just finishing up my 79 f150 6in lift stock axles just wanted to ask before I ordered rims if they would fit my project. I got a set of 37 by 12.5 16.5 tires and the rims I was gonna order are 16.5 by 8.25 wide with a 4 in backspacing and 16mm offset. Can anyone tell me if that will work fine without rubbing issues thanks in advance.
Not sure on the BS but a comment on 16.5" wheels. The 16.5" size is becoming obsolete. You have found a set but when they wear ??? Not much tire selection. If you are buying new wheels suggest 16's or 17's which have good tire selection.
Or since you have a set of 16.5" tires, find some used wheels at low cost. Not worth the investment in new wheels in that size IMO.
Yes I bet he is getting mil take offs (37x12.50x16.5)..you can get some 16.5 rims that are 5 on 5 1/2, new white spokes from Summit racing for cheap.
8.25 wide rim for a 12.50 wide tire...a little to narrow IMO. A 10 wide would be a better call. Sorry I do not know the back spacing answer, but 4" BS seems like alot for the front end?
6" on a F150 the 37" should fit, FYI that tire and rim set us is going to be very HEAVY. Just the tire is 80 lbs. And like they said when the mil take off are worn out, hope you have a source for more.
Getting 16" rims would give you a ton more off the shelf and walk in a store tire options. But go for it, I have nothing but 16.5 on all three of my F250"s!
I have been running the 37 in military take off on my 65 factory 4x4 and I love them for the price. They wear great I have had zero problems with them. I'm doing 8.25 because that's what the factory military rims for them were on my 65 I have 10 in wide rims and they are kinda ballooned out and where a pain in the but to get the bead set. From what I read you need to run a more narrow wheel on them. I just wanna know about the backspacing if it will work.
Fordman I'm having problems now trying to find tires for my 78 f150 with 6in lift. I just bought it and it has 37 14.50 15s and they rub the radius arm. I'm looking for 37 12.50 15s and they are hard to find. I'm told that i need to change to a 17in rim for a better selection of tires. Decisions decisions
I just went through the same thing with my 1976 f250. I bought military take offs thinking I'd save money and put them on the stock wheels. No one in my area would do it unless I got wider wheels. Make sure someone will mount them for you before buying wheels.
