jail bar ford

I have a couple of questions for you experts. In quite a few parts catalogs I find a big jump from 1940 to 1948 in the parts for pickup trucks. My question is this, will parts like a steering sector or ring and pinion from the 40s fit the 42 and 43 models? I also would like to put a dual carb set up on my flattie, but I want a progressive linkage set up some what like a 3 duece set up. Is anyone making a dual carb manifold with fuel runners to all cylinders and not just 4 cylinders per carb? Thanks I love this forum

For parts interchange questions you need the "Green Book", the 28-48 Passenger Car and 28-47 Truck Chassis Parts Book. This is still available from many sources. Here is one on that auction site: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1928-1948-Green-Bible-Ford-Master-Parts-Book-Catalog-Car-and-Truck/400918317197?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D33097%26meid%3D44213c50c9534756b36269ae1336cca6%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D2%26sd%3D171797951724
For dual carbs I have seen direct linkage recommended over progressive. If you must do progressive linkage the Edelbrock slingshot intake is for you: Intake Manifolds - Ford - Flathead- Slingshot / Super Dual / Tripple Duece - Edelbrock, LLC.

Thank you for your reply, I will get the green book, but its the aftermarket parts that are throwing me a curve, especially exhaust headers, I would like to use a good set of headers and they are listed for the forty and not the forty two, and I can not think for the life of me what could be so different that I could not use them

I can't help you with the headers. Please be aware that dual exhaust on a stock flathead do nothing for cooling or performance. You do gain the sound of dual exhaust. It can be a lot of work for the sound.

The '40 half ton used a totally different chassis than the '42, so there could be issues there. Headers won't be hard to fit, call up a good manufacturer of them and tell them what you have, many would be glad to help. When I had a flathead I was going to put headers and most I found would have fit.
