Grab your nearest copy of J.C. Whitney and order your on-the-dash mounted horn box with walnut wood grain! Yeeeeaaah DAWGY!

You could either get a little button on a mount like a toggle switch, wire it to your horn relay, using the original horn wire. Or go to this link:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2426015947

This thing is on Ebay all the time. Since your box was sorta recently rebuilt, I'm sure it wouldn't be a prob to stick in a correct, hollow shaft. Make sure to ask this guy if it is hollow....

If you put a switch in use a 48-52 starter button. Run the horn power through a relay and use the switch to activate the relay. This way the horn will only sound as long as you hold the button. With Moores law a normal switch will break and the horn won't shut off.

At the auto parts store, well here any way. They have a horn button that clamps around the steering collum. Maybe you can ground one part of it and run the wire down the collum throu the floor and hook it to the original wires if still their. I have put a few of them on some old dump trucks works out well.

Funny thing, Erik. I was all charged up to look up the horn power source and post it for you and ... it's not in the main electrical diagram in the 1956 shop manual! Very odd, I'm almost positive the horn was NOT an optional item - even in 1956. There are a couple of small diagrams showing the horn relay and a testing circuit to adjust the horn tone, but no overall diagram I could find.

I'm sort of hijacking your thread (just a little), but did I miss a diagram of the entire horn circuit in the shop manual? If so, does anybody have a bona fide diagram of the horn circuit for Erik's 60 and/or my 56? I'm not at the point where Erik is but I'd sure like to get the info before I'm ready to re-install mine.

I've been thinking about the horn button issue and here's an idea (probably not a good one, but an idea).

How 'bout we get Peter (Himmelberg) to use his artistic skills to craft a nice model of a fist with the middle finger extended. Mount it on a plate so the middle finger sticks straight up. Some careful cutting and drilling and you could get it so that the middle finger can be rotated down to the horizontal position and back. Then we put a spring on it so it stays in the horizontal position until you push it up. When you push it up (as in whipping the bird), the horn is activated! Now that would be original. In California, it might even get you shot.

My favorite question. How much? Quite a bit, actually... but I guarantee satisfaction. You can get one cheaper elsewhere... but here at Himmelberg World Headquarters, we feel that you can do no better at any price. I offer deep discounts for churches, schools and students. Send for our free catalog and a current fee schedule... and thanks for asking. Best. Himmelberg

AwolDog5 and George, I looked in my 57 shop manual and it does not say much eather. With out looking at my truck I am almost sure that the horn getts it's power from the starter solenoid to the horn relay mounted near the voltage reglator than one wire goes to the horn and the other wire runs along the fire wall and down to the steering collum. Than the wire that runs up the center of the collum to the horn button. When you push the horn button it grounds the relay and then the relay sends power over to the horn.
