Does anybody have a good tailgate for '57 - '60 Styleside that SOMEbody could make a repro of??? It's a small goldmine for someone w/fab skills - I'm sure I have the skills, but nothing to fab with!
Everyone sells repro parts and complete new beds for stepside! My tailgate SUCKS! The eyelets and surrounding metal have been ripped off doing God knows what, the gate is crooked and dinged, and my coat hanger is getting rusty!! Help! I know I'm not the only one w/demand, so could someone please supply?
Something else ugly about my truck is the left rear corner panel that holds the tail light housing. Anyone got a spare lying around? It's beat in and crumpled up, rusty, with 3/16" bondo sticking out of it. Evidently, someone did a bad repair, THEN hit something! No, it wasn't me.
I could use 2 original steel wheels for mine. I've got 2 for the front and was going to put Coker 15x8s on back but have decided to remain stock.
Hey sixoh, I met a few guy's at a show today that had some 57-60 parts trucks and would be willing to part some out. Let me know if you want the guy's number. I got my rims from a guy in kentucky but I think those were the last of his. Once I get my camera I'll take some pics of my original rims with whitewalls -4speed
4speed - ssswweeeeeett!! You're putting WWWs on yours?? I wasn't sure how that would look, but I'm a wide white guy myself. I don't mean I'm fat, I'm talkin' about the tires!
Hey I heard something about Coker radials getting yellow (which they do) and starting to split at the sidewalls after 3 or 4 years. I don't know if there's any truth to that, but I was turned on to Diamond Backs by a hot rodder who says they never yellow and don't crack up either.
What color are you painting your wheels? Do you have the original caps? I've got like 10 of them! Go ahead and give me the guys' number on that....
Ok first off, I just got the rims and tires put on friday. I went with a 1.5 inch(its wider than you think) white wall radial from my local firestone store. The rims I had sandblasted and painted off white. The original(not those 48-60 ones you seen in the repo mags) have been sandblasted and painted silver with the red ford lettering. The truck looks 100% better than before! I'll e-mail you this guy's phone# for the sake of his privacy. -4speed
Hey Sixoh, I've got one of the nicest original tailgates that you'll EVER see for a 57-60 Styleside. Not a dent or ding on it! Straight as a pin with ZERO rust! Bought it from a guy in Oregon a few years ago. Must've taken it off the truck when new and stored it away all these years! In fact, it's so nice, I'm not sure if I'm going to put it on my truck yet or not! All it takes is one little rear ender, and it's gone! Sorry but I could'nt send it to Ohio , I'd be worried that it would get damaged or lost. They are really hard to find in great shape! Almost as hard to find as Magic Aire parts! I would take it to someone local to use for a template, but I would'nt know who could make one around here! If you could find someone in Calif. close to me that could make one for you, I'd let you use as a template. Would probably be expensive though!
I knew they were out there! It pays to advertise! It does.
Sorry I didn't get back sooner....I was under my truck and in it cruisin' all weekend!
Say 58Ford...did you get that off Ebay last year? I found a '57 - '60 gate (reddish orange) on there and bid on it. I t went for too much tho'. But it was p-e-r-f-e-c-t. The guy actually DID take it off in '58 and stuck it in a bldg and forgot about it. If you're the one that overbid me, then ha ha ha!!! You should take it and get it reproduced, not just for yourself, but we'uns out here in need. You could make some money. Don't think I wouldn't!
Alright BigWin..let me see if I can send to you real quick...get some pics ready!
I'm waitin' for 4Speed's wheel pics before I get the other 2 steelies from him (ahem).
You don't have to break the bank, man. I was giving you a hard time. I'd come on up on my day off and check them out, but that's a good 2hr one way trip! I'll shoot a close-up of mine tonight when I get home from work (I just gave myself away!). That way you can see what I've got close up.....they're supposed to be off a '57 F100.
I'll send the pics around 6....gotta stop at Joann Fabrics and get some stuff to reup. my bench seat with.
Originally posted by Sixoh Yeah that stinks. I thought you had a digital. I can wait a little while, but we leave on August 15th.
My rims are 15x7s rim to rim, but I think have a stamp on them that says 15x5. I dunno, maybe I'm confusing them w/my old Rambler wheels.
Sixoh, go to this link: Wheel Measurements
and you can see how to measure your wheel width. From what I can tell, it's not the outside dimension you've mentioned.
Nope Sixoh, that was'nt me that outbid you. Mine is blue in color, not red-orange. I did get it from the guy on Ebay though, after he ran the listing with no bids. I contacted him after the auction, and very glad I did! I don't know of anyone in my area skilled enough to repro one, but if someone geared up and started making them, I'd bet they'd sell thousands of them!!! Later.
Walk AWAY FROM the light. Sir, I repeat: Walk AWAY FROM the light!
OK, seriously... a good tailgate for a Styleside (57-60) is VERA HARR to find. Mine was warped inward, pitted, scratched to hell, etc. I looked far and wide (even as far as Bugtusle, KY), but to no avail. Stepsiders available, but no Stylesiders. I ended up skinning over the original for a smoothed tailgate (see gallery). If you INSIST on leaving the Dark Side, Butch n Me will miss you, but bid you "fare thee well, kind Sir".
