I have an addition...and if I'm wrong I have no issues being corrected...
If you have single piston wheel cylinders the front shoes should wear quicker than the rear. You can swap them to buy more time as the rears see very little wear in comparison.

Front and rear drums are different size, 14" front 15" rear.. (If that's what you were suggesting.)
As I read Calvin's post, he's saying shoe life can be extended by swapping side for side. Shoes, however, can be relined locally. It's the drums that are NLA. Stu

Oy. I had two thoughts on my mind that got mashed together. I did mean moving the front shoe to the rear and the rear to the front but yes, the questions pertained to DRUMS and my note had absolutely to do with it. I need a nap. lol
Since the drums are rare, the brakes are manually adjusted and the shoes are relined anyway try oversize thickness from winch material when relining gives you a little more time with the worn drums.
Thanks guys. Then I assume a 1/8" deep groove pretty much disqualifies a drum. Can't buff that out. When I popped the right front off, a bunch of rivets fell out. Not much lining left.
Like said, the shoes can generally be relined locally, but new drums are NLA. Finding good used is your answer. You might check with Chuck at Chuck's Trucks in CT to see if he has any he's rescued. Here's his web site. Stu
If there is just one 1/8" groove in an otherwise acceptable drum, I don't know that I'd toss it. Depends whether you are going to run down a mountain towards a stoplight with a full load of concrete, or are driving empty to shows and such. Excessive heat would dictate a new drum.

I'll see if they will clean up. Don't intend on doing any freeway driving. I'll check with Chuck too.
