I am 17, and I have a 96 bronco with a 302 and a 5 speed and a 73 highboy with a 360 and a 4 speed. By the way, I really enjoyed seeing your posts in the bump side forum of you giving your bump a good workout, gotta keep these old rigs going!
Well good! Glad you enjoyed them. 17 eh? Your already farther ahead than I was. I got my truck at 18 and it's still my only vehicle. (21 now) but I'm thinking about picking up a 67 mustang to have something a little better on gas.
Thanks! Nowadays, I think I drive the highboy more than the Bronco. The bronco is a ton better on gas, but it is so nice and clean, that I would rather preserve it. Besides, I haul stuff pretty frequently, so it makes sense to have a truck.
How does your bump do with the AOD, and what kind of mileage do you get?
I average 13mpg combined. (But I can't get through a tank without having it on the floor a few times) I think If I had a good highway run and could cruise 55-60 I might be able to get about 15mpg.
Best I ever did was 17mpg. But that was back when I had a stock engine with a 2 barrel and the C4 trans. The overall performance has improved greatly with the upgrades, but I sacrificed some economy for drive-ability and power.
You've probably seen in my other threads/posts how it is.
That's not bad at all! I don't think I could make it out of the state in any direction with my highboy on one tank. I have squeezed close to 13 out of it, though I average 10-11. I drive like a real granny though. I doubt that truck has ever seen 4,000 rpm with me behind the wheel. The Bronco is all stock with a 302 and a 5 speed, and is in cherry shape so I can get close to 20 if I work at it.
