I am in need of a mat for my 50 f1. Does anyone know if all the vendors carry the same product? I was thinking of ordering from Dennis Carpenter. Anyone have an opinion?
I bought mine from Carpenter almost 13 years ago. It has held up very well and fits fine. Even back then, they had a disclaimer saying it was made from the original molds, which has defects. The defects are trivial, unless you put your eyeballs right down next to the mat they are unnoticeable. A lot of people sell the Carpenter mat, wouldn't be surprised if there are import knockoffs out there.
I got mine from Midwest early ford. $150. Nice product, can't remember who made it. Had to cut out for shifter, but no other modifications. Mine is floor shift.
I recently installed one that I bought from Bob Drake back in 1992. The rubber was still soft and pliable. Noticed too, that it was nearly identical to the one I was replacing which was NAPA (Balkamp) from the 70's - only difference was part of the stamped label area was blotted out on the new one. I'm sure it was made on the same old dies that had changed hands. - Bob
The ribs on my mat that run cross ways stop at each side of the transmission hump and change direction. They then run fore and aft. I can't remember the brand I have.
Mine is the same as Bob's, and is the Carpenter product. Same model info cast into it. Carpenter's big thing is rubber and plastic casting, makes sense Drake would just handle their product.
Drake makes a lot of their own rubber parts, too. Usually they don't even re-label the Carpenter parts that they sell. In the case of the mat I installed, I really couldn't tell by the box who made it. See if you guys can tell by these pictures. - Bob
I just saw this on DC's site: "Some Floor mats on the market are reproduced using old original molds that have flaws, We have made an entirely new mold resulting in a high quality floor mat that is correct in every detail!"
The flaws on my older DC mat are where the bends over the trans hump are; bridges across the depressions between ribs. It would be interesting to see if the flaws are still present on some other mats.
So which rib pattern is "correct" as in original? We know that the DC headliners are not really "correct" compared to the ones Ford used in '52. I can't remember how the ribs were oriented on the worn out mat that was in mine when I bought it. - Bob

The pattern in the pictures you posted are a dead match to my original. The DC version is identical based on my inspection.
How does one install this floor mat? It would seem obvious, but how do you get the steering column inside the hole? Is the mat split?
I understand removing the brake and clutch pedal pads would allow slipping over those pedals, and the hi-beam switch, gas linkage and pedal are no-brainers. But I can't imagine having to remove the steering wheel and dropping the column out to install a floor mat.
