Can't identify this vacuum line

Over the last couple of weeks, I have been having problems with my A/C (it works, but doesn't always blow out of the front vents though eventually it does) and have read several other threads here that all suggest checking vacuum lines.

So I popped the hood of my '06 Navigator and had a look around the areas people identify as problem areas, and sure enough here I find this line that is not connected... but I cannot figure out where it is supposed to go. It comes out of the firewall on the passenger side, and when I found it it was sitting alongside the A/C lines. Haven't a clue where it connects.

Can any of the knowledgeable people help me out here?

Sorry for the huge pictures, and they need to be rotated 90 degrees clockwise.

Coming out of the firewall;

There are only two vacuum hoses coming through the firewall. One for main vacuum supply for the entire HVAC, if this one is cut then the HVAC goes into defroster mode only and doesn't work. The other one is the vacuum line for the heater control valve sitting next to the airbox on passenger side. This one shuts off coolant flow to the heater core when in AC mode.

Another hose that goes into the firewall is the washer fluid hose for the rear washer, but it doesn't look like it's that from the pictures.

Ok, but my issue is I don't see where either connects. And I looked pretty thoroughly.

Check this one, not sure if the Navi has the same airbox as the Expy, but the heater control valve might be in the same place regardless. Nevermind the red scriblings, it was the best picture Google found for me..

The main vacuum supply is T'ed off from the vacuum line going to the 4WD solenoid on the firewall next to the battery.

You were correct - nothing was connected there, so I plugged it in there. That's the one that stops flow to the heater core?

That's correct. My '05 Expy had the same issue, it was not plugged in. I later discovered that mine was leaking when the vacuum pulled the lever back and closed the valve so I replaced it with a new one, 15 bucks for a genuine Motorcraft one from Rockauto, and about 5 minutes of my time. (tip: put some rags under it to catch any coolant when disconnecting it, if you will replace it in the future). To check the function, start the engine, set the AC to max cold and it should pull the lever back and shut off the coolant flow to the heater core.

It is difficult to understand your question. What stick or what ball?

As I said when posting that picture, nevermind the red scribblings. I found that pic on Google, I'm not the one making that writing. The vacuum connects to the round piece, nothing is connected to the stick as it's the lever that the vacuum actuator (that round piece) pulls on.

roger that I appreciate your help i had to double check because the vacuum hose was attached to the clip on the edge (right of pic) the line was running perpendicular to the hood edge.....

The "left stick" is just that...a stick...a pivot point, it is not a vacuum port. The hose connects on the right end of the valve shown in that picture.

Ahhhh the stick and the ball. Not referring to a stick shift nor a ball joint.

Rather it is a vacuum valve that controls coolant flow into the heater core. When the HVAC system is set to cool that valve closes the majority of hot coolant flowing to the heater core. Having heated coolant in the HVAC system kind of defeats the mission of cooling.

With that vacuum hose disconnected not only does the HVAC system not cool as efficently the engine and the HVAC system has a vacuum leak. Connecting the hose as shown on this 2006 Lincoln Navigator fixes all issues.

I have a question about this.. I had to change the EGR and its tube when i noticed that on my heater core valve the vacuum line is broken as the line was just hanging there. What I would like to know is where does the other end go ? i can't seem to find where the other end goes. The line is plugged in at the valve and just hanging. TY in advance.

I have a 1997 Explorer 5.0L
