Whining noise or as kids would say sounds like an airplane
As title says, have a whining noise which gets louder or more pronounced with speed. Sounds like tire noise but I know its not because they are fairly new. I think it is front left bearing. At a higher speeds when the noise is stronger if I turn to the right around a bend or shift lanes harder the noise is stronger and if I do the opposite the noise is less or almost gone until I'm straight again. I would think this would be the left front bearing. Transmission or gearbox shouldn't change noise or should it?
Thanks in advance. Secondly, if it is front bearing what is difficulty level on this type of job?
Easy if 2wd. If 4wd, it's a sealed bearing system which needs to be entirely replaced. Not a big project, just more then the simple 2wd.
I think you're headed the right direction knowing how the sounds appear.
Also, check your fluid levels and color to eliminate those possibilities.
Thanks, forgot to mention it is 4WD which looks to me like it should be more simple without having a bearing race. I will need to recheck the fluid levels.
I agree, it sounds like the left front HUB. I do suggest you replace both fronts anyways since they have the same mileage on them. If one goes, the second likely isn't far behind.
