Any used BOTH KYB Monomax and Bilstein Shocks on their Ex?
Currently have Monomax shocks on all corners on my 01' V10 Ex with ATS X/Mod C Code springs. It is stiff and I'm OK with that most of the time. However this past weekend I experienced something I never have before. While driving down a washboard dirt road it felt like the doors were going to come off the hinges.
I am not expecting a "nice" ride, just wondering if different shocks would help in this situation. I have had a couple buddies with Super Duties tell me the Bilstein 5150's would have been a better choice. I have used many different shocks over the years but unsure for this application.
Thanks to any who may be able to provide some insight.
I can't say about KYB but I went from the rancho 9000's to the bilstein 5100 series and prefer the overall feel of the bilstein. It's not a soft ride but not harsh either.
Do a search here for it.... Basically our weather stripping gets weak and doors start to rattle after a while. By using tubing in the stripping that will give you nice tight doors. I did this to my 1st excursion but I opted to go with all new stripping on my current Ex.
Did some searching and now I have to find another $50 in the couch cushions Thanks for the info, will do this mod as soon as I have time to stop at Home Depot.
Anyone ran both the Monomax and Bilsteins? Hopefully the door seal mod will help but I am open to swapping shocks as well...
Bilsteins came after monroes. Big difference, although I went with dual fronts. Regarding the sway bar.... just my $.02 Non towing ride is mucho better without it.... especially on uneven surfaces where the truck has a tendency to pitch. However for towing?... it definitely helps.
