what holley should replace a Ford carb w/240cfm?

Hi, my current 292 ('61 Mercury Meteor) has a Ford carb
on it (which according to the information in the sticky in this
forum flows 240 CFM).

I have just purchased a Ford 4bbl manifold for it - what Holley
(or other 4 bbl) would be best suited for this 292 (stock everything).

thanks, S.

ps. I'm looking for driveability first, and power second.

For driveability and tuneability, I would recommend an Edelbrock 500cfm 4BBL. That may be pushing it for too much carb, though, and a Holley 390cfm 4BBL may be better, but you will loose some driveability. Why not go with a throttle body injection system? Stand- alone EFI systems are available, and can be built for around $150. Painless Wiring offers GM- style throttle body to 4BBL intake mounts, and you can use your stock distributor, or an aftermarket system. That would be the best way to go for driveability.

Well, I just bought a ECZ 9425-B intake and an unknown 4bbl
carb on it (from EBay). I think I would rather stay with a carb than adding the complication of the FI to the car.

Would you recommendation change (for carbs) knowing the intake manifold I'll be using?

cheers, S.

I second the Edelbrock 500 cfm, it would work on your 292 up to 5500 rpm, and is pretty easy to set up.
