Recently driving up and down road to work about a half hour in to drive the battery light will flicker especially if under a load (AC on, lights on)etc... Assuming it is the alternator/voltage regulator getting ready to FAIL. Plan on replacing alternator this weekend? Any thoughts ideas or recommendations to do or check something other than replace the alternator?
Depending on the year, there are different Alternators of course. Some (voltage regulator) are integral to the alternator itself and are replaced as part of the routine service of rebuilding. You want the whole "kit" even if this is the problem, because the other parts are worn out too. But the case itself doesn't wear out, and the windings should be OK.
What I mean by OEM is the case and windings and such. Keep the alternator itself when practical. What gets replaced are bearings and diodes and other wear bits depending on year and type. I think my 2009 has a 3G, the 2000 model year may not. But the link provided will have the right kit, and they have YouTube videos to walk through it. May need some propane to do a little brazing/soldering.
