Expy Lift Question

Hello everyone.

I am a bit confused since I changed from a Landy to an Expy. 98 XLT. So lifting this truck is a bit different than my previous vehicle.

I am contemplating to lift the vehicle but unsure as to how to go. I hear many different ways. So I'll lay out the way I was planning to go.
I was going to get a 3in body lift kit from Performance accessories.
Putting that I was going to replace my shocks with Rancho shocks:
RS7112(RS7000MT) for rear and RS5237 (RS5000) for the front. They are rated for lifted vehicles (meaning they stretch out ? )

I also heard people just max out their torsion keys and add spacers to their springs in the rear, but I dont want to run into balljoint and axle problems in the front.

Ultimate goal, is to put on 305/70/R16s.

Any help is appreciated, I just don't want to put money into the wrong parts.

Thanks!

#1: i am not a fan of body lifts. the hardware is not strong enough and the bolts can break from the added stress put on them in an accident, which in turn leads to body/frame separation.
here is a picture showing what i am talking about. you can clearly see the body lift bushing is still on the frame, and the cab mounts are still on the cab and frame front and rear. but the bolts holding them together are both snapped

#2: extended shocks are not needed with body lift.
shocks are suspension pieces, and would only need to be lengthened if a suspension lift was installed.

thanks for the insight. Do you suggest getting coil spacers and new torsion keys instead ?

I'd do the body lift and a shock upgrade like you outlined.

Only not a longer shock for a suspension lift but a bit stiffer shock.

Did that truck belong to someone here? Do we know what grade bolts were used in the mounts and/or their condition?

no idea. it is an older picture. body lifts come with low grade bolts.
i saw way too many body separation accidents due to failed body lifts in my years on the police force and fire depts to ever put one on anything anyone i know drives, or let anyone i know drive anything with a body lift.

i have seen vehicles come into the body shop with 6 inch body lifts that do not have any body lines line up because the body shifted form simply doing a panic stop.

Folks I need to tell you that my experience with body lifts are way different. I have been driving to Colorado and Utah and 4 wheeling for 35 years and never saw a body separation. Worked on the local PD for 16 years and never saw it happen. Worked in an Off Road shop and sold a bunch and many were installed in that shop and never saw one. I have installed on my own vehicles a major brand 2 and 3 inch body lifts and even made a 1 inch and never had a body separation.

Now this is not what I have seen somewhere or read about but what I have done myself. Body lifts have been around for a long time and are still going strong. That being said I have no doubt that there was a Darwin award contender involving a body lift. But just because a few miss use something doesn't mean it is bad or not safe to be used as intended.
