ok this is on a 93 EFI 302. ok, ive been having this problem with oil pressure. ok so i thought for a little bit that maybe where the sender went it was clogged or something....ive had oil pressure, the gauge just wouldnt read it, so yesterday im outside...trucks idleing...which its always had a loud idle to it..and all of a sudden the truck quitens down considerably. so i look over in the bay at the hose that goes the oil gauge..its filled, so i look inside. gauges is reading ~45 pounds of pressure. so i guess whatever was there is now gone. so now its super quiet (motor noise, not exhaust) so i get in it pull it down in drive and start to pull up to the garage. when i slow down i notice this ticking sound from up at the motor. so now........if i let it warm up, and give it gas, the ticking increases with the rpms of the motor...like in sync with it. you cant hear it at idle, and u cant hear it till the motor warms up. im positive its not a lifter cuz its not constant...im stuck however between a rod/bearings or a rocker. however it doesnt have that deep knock like a rod has. it sound like its comin out of the driver side valve cover, and it does sound like its up top, but sound travles through metal good too. it really sounds like around #5 or #6 is where it comin from. and the truck has a little weaker idle now....at least it sounds like it. anybody ever heard anything like that, or KNOW what it is? i got 4 weeks to get this thing ready (school) dont feel like pullin the motor, but i will if i have to. im hopin rocker, but im prepared for the worst.
and one last thing, me and my friend were testing, but its kinda baffled us. put 10w-30 in it....the knock is loud, but fits the description above still. we then put some 20w-50 in it and the knock is only 1/4 as loud..still fitting description. any ideas?
What brand Oil and what brand filter? I use Valvoline Max-Life and a motorcraft filter. I would cover the fenders and the areas around the truck, pull the valve covers and start it. make sure you keep putting oil it so it doesn't run out, this will let you see what is happening on the top end and also alert you to any problems.
