Need Lift/Tire Guidance

Looking for some guidance on setting up my 2015 SD Platinum. I have been researching for a few weeks and here is what I think I am going with:

- Carli 4.5" Pintop Lift
- 20x12 Fuel Hostage -44 Offset ??
- 35x12.50x2 Toyo MT
- Bushwacker Pocket Flares

Or 18x9 with 37x13.50x18 but not sure of the correct backspace (5"-5.75") to fill the pocket flares and avoid rubbing.

Few questions for ya'll.

- I know Carli recommends running 17-18" wheels. What effect will running 20" wheels/tires have with this lift.

- Will the 20" wheel/tire combo with a -44 offset fill the pocket flares good?

Any advice or guidance is greatly appreciated as there is so many combinations out there. I am starting to like the 18" with 37's option better as the wheel to tire ratio seems better proportional.

I like all of your choices, but not too sure about the -44 offset, you'll have way more tire sticking out than you realize. My truck has fuel rampage with a -19 offset (4.75 BS):

I'm running a 4"BDS 4link lift, the tires are 35x12.5x20, the rims are 20x10

The 4 1/2" Carli should clear the 37's, but you may have some rubbing issues at full lock and you may need to trim the plastic air dam below the front bumper a little. I know with mine, I'd have to do some trimming to clear the 37's.

i doubt the 37 13.50 will fit with a 4.5 lift. usually they recommend a 8" lift but plenty of people have done with with 6".
if your going to lift it anything past a level (2.5-3") size kit you should really look into a 4 link system. especially one thats adjustable.

i guess I'm wrong on the 37" tires.

looks like the 18x9 wheels with 5" BS is the common way to go. looks like they will give you an 1.5"+/- of stance with that setup.

I debated between 18" and 20" wheels for a long time before I finally settled on the 18's. I am very happy with my choice. I have the Bushwacker flares and +1mm offset wheels and 37" tires. They rub just a bit on the passenger side flare. I am sure I can fix it but haven't bothered yet. I also had to modify the bumper brackets a bit with a grinder.

Wheel diameter has nothing to do with it. Make sure you get the backspacing/offset right is the important thing. The wheel arches can clear 37's fine as it is. It's other components you may have to think about, mostly plastic, and aftermarket stuff like the bushcrackers.

Personally, I love the look of stock height trucks on 37's more than 35's with a 4" lifted truck hovering over them. But to each their own!

Carli likely recommends a smaller (17-18") wheel as they will ride nicer offroad due to the taller sidewall. Stock 20's are almost 35s, I can fit 37s with my 2" lift, so I would go 37s to start with. A 9" wide wheel will look totally different than a 12" and fit much better.

It also depends on what you use the truck for. Loading a motorcycle (or anything for that matter) into a truck with the tailgate 43" off the ground sucks. If you tow heavy through the mountains, 37s will degrade performace further, and you may be unhappy with the results.

If you want the truck to look 'taller', you can also get retractable steps (Amp) instead of fixed steps.

Great looking rig. Do you have pics from the front and rear. Just curious how they fill the fender and Bushwacker's.

Have you seen a stock height truck on 37's? I ask because I went with stock size tires and they rub on my mud flaps when I turn. A guy at work opted for 35's with stock height and they REALLY rubbed when he turned. So he added a levelling kit and they just BARELY clear. I am almost 100% positive that 37's would rub an insane amount on a stock height truck. Sure it'll look nice and work just perfect if you drive in a straight line but I wouldn't want to turn the wheel at all. JMO

Sorry, what? No stock tire should come anywhere near rubbing. Neither should 35's. Unless you're talking about some fat wide meats. I wouldn't recommend 37x1550's on a stock wheel, either.

Yes exactly as I said. I went with stock size Duratrac's and they rub on 2 of the machine screw heads that I used to install the flaps with. The tolerance on a stock height truck is that close. I can guarantee that 35's would not fit without rubbing on my stock height truck. So I'll ask again, have you ever seen a stock height truck with 37's on it as you stated you like the look of it? Thanks

With a 4" lift and 35's, I have maybe 1/2" clearance between the tire and front bumper at full lock and maybe an inch in the rear on the opposite tire. I also installed the 4-Link suspension, if I still had the radius arms, I'd probably touch there also, I know my friend has a 6" lift with 37's and has a rubbing issue on the radius arms and had trim the front air dam and I believe he added a 1" spacer to the front bumper.

Thanks for the info Mitch. I was sure there was no way that a stock height truck would handle 37's without major issues. Cheers
